Acoustic Guitar Workshop: BEGINNER I: Note Reading Basics
In this workshop, the student will be introduced to the 17 natural notes in the first position on the guitar. The workshop gives students practice and drills to enhance retention and hone fingering, picking, timing, and rhythmic skills. By the end of this 12-week course, the student will have a clear understanding of how to read and play all 17 notes in the first position. Bring your own guitar. Handouts are included in course fee.

Acoustic Guitar Workshop: BEGINNER II: Note Reading Applications
This workshop is suitable for students who have been playing the guitar for some time, and knows how to read notes, but needs to increase or expand their reading skills, the ability to smoothly execute the notes, starting to learn the rest of the fingerboard, and creativity. The workshop, builds on the knowledge from the "BEGINNER I Workshop" or other similar experience. The student begins to apply the notes to playing songs, reading playing two note chords, introduction to Sharps and Flats, learning to use more complex rhythms, dynamics, timing and speed. By the end of this 12-week course, the student will be able to effectively read and play recognizable songs in the 1st and 2nd positions on the guitar. The course is offered in Manhattan and/or in Westchester.

The student begins to apply the notes to playing songs, learning to use more complex rhythms, applying techniques for interpretation, dynamics, timing and speed. By the end of this 12-week course, the student will be able to effectively read and play complex, recognizable songs in the first and 2nd positions on the guitar. The course is offered in Manhattan and in Westchester.

This workshop, builds on the knowledge from Acoustic Guitar Workshop I & II. Scales and notes in the Upper Positions of the fingerboard are introduced. We will use practices and drills in applying the new material to playing songs, mastering the notes, rhythms, applying interpretation, dynamics, timing and speed. By the end of this 12-week course, the student will have a clear understanding of how to read and play all notes in the 1st Position through the 5th Position on all six strings. Reading and playing 2 note chords written as shaped notes up through the 5th position. The course is offered in Manhattan and in Westchester.
Prerequisite: Beginner I and II: Note Reading Basics (or equivalent experience). Recommended: Note Reading Basics: Beginner III.

The SCALE THEORY AND APPLICATIONS workshop is an in-depth review of the Major scale and the Modes of the major scale. Improvisation using Major and Dorian Minor Scales. Each week covers one Major scale and it's Dorian minor scale. This course is an on-going expansion of the concepts Blues Workshop I. Learn to play and improvise blues devastating blues solos! Using techniques learned in Blues Workshop I, students continue to develop blues styling and improvisation over the blues chord changes. Variations on chord changes are introduced. We expand our exploration of the Pentatonic scale and it's relationship to both the scales from which they are derived and the chords to which they apply. This 12-Week course, the student will have a clear understanding of how to create effective and interesting blues solos while jamming with other musicians. Acoustic Guitar Workshop: Blues Performance Workshop
Each month, students in his course will have an opportunity to participate in a performance showcase at a local bar or restaurant in New York City and/or Westchester. We will use and expand on skills developed in Blues Workshop I, II and III. Students must register for and attend all four sessions. The course is offered in Manhattan and in Westchester.
Prerequisite:
Note Reading Basics: Beginner I, II; Note Reading Applications: Intermediate I & II, III; Blues Workshop I, II & III;
Recommended: Note Reading Basics: Beginner III, Intermediate I, II and III. For best results, Advanced I, II and II also recommended.

Private Lessons: Guitar, Bass and Piano
This consist of private, individual, music instruction, or one on one instruction with a teacher. Private instruction is suitable for all levels of students, beginners, intermediate or advanced. Lessons are scheduled at times that are convenient to both you and the teacher. You learn at your own pace and lessons build on your already existing skill levels. You are introduced to all the fundamentals such as note-reading, chord playing, scales, theory, playing by ear, sight reading and every concept is applied to playing songs to ensure mastery. Private lessons available in my studio, at Ripley Grier Studios in Manhattan or in the privacy of your own home. Cost vary based on location.

It is highly recommended that you participate in at least one private lesson per month while you are participating in group workshops. This provides private, one-on-one coaching to ensure that any gaps in your understanding of the workshop material is addressed.
