  • What makes this workshop different? Your instructor is patient, experienced as an instructor and very knowledgeable about musical concepts.
  • How does the workshop work? There hands-on instruction to illustrate every concept being taught. Because the session is 2.5 hours, you get to practice each concept to mastery within the session. As a result you can practice more effectively during the week in between sessions.
  • Are there handouts for the workshop? Yes! You receive Not Reading Book written specifically for the workshops, as well as handouts of any concepts discussed during the workshop that are not part of the book; even if the discussion is totally impromptu based on questions you or other students ask during the sessions. You can also take notes from what's written on the whiteboard.
  • How long does it normally take to learn to play? The workshop gets everyone playing by the end of the very first session. On average, after 12 sessions, you should be able to play both the notes and the chords to several songs you will learn during the workshop. Continued practice will continue to develop you skill, confidence and your experience of mastery.
  • Which works better, group or private lessons? Yes. The workshop is designed to accommodate the variety of skill levels of the people in the group. So the pacing of the group will be different than that of private lessons. Private lessons also allow you to fill any gaps in your understanding and enables you to make more effective use of the workshops and improve your performance skill more quickly.
  • Do workshop participants receive discounts on private lessons? Yes! Acoustic Guitar Forum participants get $10.00 off each scheduled one-hour private lesson and $5.00 off each half hour lesson. To be eligible for this discount, you must be registered (and paid) for a future scheduled Acoustic Workshop course.
  • Can I attend if I don't have a guitar? In Manhattan, No! However, in Westchester, I have a limited number of guitars available for your use during the session. However, it's important to have a guitar at home to practice. Otherwise you quickly forget what was covered in the workshop and you don't progress or improve your skills as a guitar player
  • What type of guitar do I need for the workshop? An acoustic guitar
  • Do you sell guitars? Yes! I provide a range of high quality guitars at reasonable prices to my students.
  • Can I bring an acoustic bass guitar to the workshop? No. The Note Reading Workshops are specific to learning to play the guitar; we do not cover the notes of the bass. However, for the events that are Jam Sessions (such as the Westchester Jam), you may bring a bass instrument and bass players will have an opportunity to play and jam with the group.
  • What if I only have an electric guitar? You can still attend the workshop. We have a limited number of acoustic guitars you can borrow. And if desired, we can assist you in acquiring a reasonably priced acoustic guitar.
  • What if I work on Sundays and can't make the scheduled workshop? I also have a workshop on Saturdays in Westchester. Also I offer private lessons and you can schedule lessons at your convenience.
  • If I pay online and I have to cancel, can I get a refund? Yes! However, there are limitations: In order to get a full refund, you must cancel at least 48 hours in advance of the date and time of the workshop for which you've registered. At that time, you can either transfer the cost to another session, or receive a full refund.
