Volunteer Night At The Bowery Mission On The Lower East Side

Hey everybody,

We did this a number of years ago and I've been meaning to set it up again for a while. This would be for dinner service for three hours (4:30-7:30) and we need to have a minimum of five volunteers and a max of eight. Should be a fun, rewarding time and if people want to go out after, happy to organize.

***Just an update for everyone coming tomorrow:

Meet at 227 Bowery between Prince and Rivington Street. Look for the double green doors. When you get to the front desk, tell them you are here to volunteer in the kitchen. Their cook will come ready for us.

The volunteering at the Bowery Mission was very nice. But most important, we must never forget that those people we were feeding could well be ourselves. So, its humbling!

Caught up as we are in the desire for stuff, this activity reminds us that that there is more to life than our own world.

    Sincerely; Dave Elpren

Last night serving at the Bowery Mission was awesome! The staff were well organized, kind and generous. The men receiving the meals were grateful and polite. Pret a Manger had given very generous donations. Thank you Shani for organizing this event.

Renee, thanks for coming to volunteer last night and I hope you have a relaxing evening after your kitchen detail. I'd like to try to do this on a semi-regular basis if people are interested.

My first Meetup. Enjoyed meeting fellow expats and "Canadianophile". Made me appreciate my life just a bit more!
    Thanks Shani

A very rewarding night: nice to socialize while also doing something for a community in need.

Hey everybody, In case you didn't see the change to the Meet Up, the address is down the block.

Meet at 227 Bowery between Prince and Rivington Street. Look for the double green doors. When you get to the front desk, tell them you are here to volunteer in the kitchen. Their cook will come ready for us. See you all tomorrow! And if anyone wants to go out afterward, perhaps we could try the new Canadian burger and poutine place that opened earlier in the summer. Or there are a number of places around the Bowery now too.
