Monthly Meet-Up at Kombucha Brooklyn, 8.23

Hi Everyone:

It took a little bit of coordination so I am sorry for the late notice of this month's Meet-Up. BUT I am excited to let you all know that we are going to do a tour of Kombucha Brooklyn.

Owner Eric Childs will provide us with a tour of their facility at the Pfizer building in Williamsburg which has become a hub for artisanal food production.

KBBK was started in 2009 when it rolled out with 3 flavors of kombucha in 16-oz bottles to a handful of stores in Brooklyn. Their bottles are now available in stores throughout the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic region.

For information about KBBK go to: http://www.kombuchabrooklyn.com/

Thanks!

Angela

Great attendance at this event. So I thought I would ask. Does anyone have any milk kefir grains they might be getting rid of? Someone brought water kefir grains to give away at the last meetup and that allowed me to make my first water kefir. Looking to learn to make milk kefir too.

If so... can you bring enough for two? Or perhaps anyone have a scooby to share? I am a newbie fermenter looking to get her start!

Wanted to mention its a little tricky finding the entrance to the building. The address is flushing ave but there is no numbers visible, but the actual entrance is behind the building by the parking lot. You can only get in one side of the parking lot, I don't remember the name of that street. If you are coming from the g train walk away from the apartment buildings, all the way past the Pfizer bldg, make a right at the corner, circling the bldg and then you will see the entrance on the right.

Robin's directions came in handy when visiting for the first time. To get to the entrance of 630 Flushing Ave., walk along Flushing to Tompkins Avenue and make a right (if coming from G train) . Entrance is beyond the guard booth.

Hoping the G train is running normally at this time. Are we meeting on the 5th floor or in the lobby? This building is huge...

    August 19, 2013

    • Angela D.

Mona, we will meet on the 5th floor which is where Kombucha Brooklyn is based.

Will we be able to buy anything at that time?

    August 14, 2013

    • Angela D.

Chris, I am not sure. I will ask.

      August 14, 2013

    • Angela D.

Yes, you will be able to purchase items and we will get a 5% discount.

I have a few fermenting buddies who have tried their hands at Kombucha, however, they are not part of this group (to my knowledge). Could I inform them about this event?

Sure, that would be fine. Just let me know how many.

Hi Angela. Two of my friends have confirmed. Pablo Pineda (Brookimchi) and Antonio Lumuaco (Kimchilicious).

Interested in learning more about fermenting....What a great opportunity to see kombucha produced en-masse!

Our organization "Culture Den" is based in downtown JC, where we serve as food educators, counselors, and presenters for the community. We have learned much about the powerful impact fermented foods can have on our health, and we look forward to this

I took the beginning and advanced kombucha classes there. It was great. Are we bringing anything fermented?

    August 13, 2013

    • Angela D.

Robin, we are just touring the facility. No need to bring a ferment.
