Improv Games in Central Park Followed by Drinks at The Three Monkeys

Let's get together again in Central Park and play some improv games! There's no prior improv experience required, and if you prefer to just watch, you're welcome to join as well!

I'll bring my box of warm ups and games, but please feel free to bring ideas on your favorite exercises as well! A huge thanks to those of you who have already e-mailed me some new games - please keep them coming :).

After we're done playing (around 8-8:30pm), we will head over to The Three Monkeys at 236 W. 54th St. (between Broadway and 8th Ave.) for drinks and snacks in the upstairs part of the bar. Thanks to Stephanie for finding this place and turning after-improv drinks into a tradition! :)

How to Find Crime Busters Rock:

Crime Busters Rock is in the southern part of the park, just east of Center Drive. Here are the exact directions with Columbus Circle (the southwestern corner of the park) as the starting point:

  1. Walk northeast along Central Park Drive towards West Drive.
  2. Turn right onto West Drive.
  3. West Drive turns into Center Drive, if you bear left (north).
  4. Crime Busters Rock will be to the right (east) of Center Drive (between Wollman Rink and Center Drive, but much closer to Central Drive than the rink).

If you arrive on time, you'll see me there with a yellow sign that says "Improv in the Park." If you're late, look for one or more circles of people having a blast doing improv in the surrounding lawn area :).

Here's a link to a Google map with the route outlined: http://goo.gl/maps/XhvsK

You can also find us on the Google Maps app on any smartphone by searching for "Crime Busters Rock" and using your GPS/navigation functionality to get directions to it.

I was able to salvage some of the video and punch out 5 min. piece. Performers voices were very low at times and on board mic didn't help me.

I'll post a better quality track for you guys to grab in a few days...

    Hope you like it.

Hi Veen - let's plan on meeting a few minutes early at a spot that's easy to find next time (e.g., Columbus Circle) and walk over together. Post a comment a few days in advance next time you're able to attend, and we'll coordinate. Sorry you had trouble finding us this time!

I've asked the Park Rangers and even they say there's no Crime Busters Rock. How do I find you guys?

    August 4, 2013

  • Stephanie

If you want to meet earlier in an easier spot, how about directly in front of the USS Maine Monument? The side next to the street, right below the Google Maps marking for it. I'll be there at 5:45pm; we'll leave at 5:51pm. Sound good?

    5 · August 2, 2013

I thought I was at the right rock but I don't see anyone that looks like the group.

      August 4, 2013

Walk down east drive and follow the horses to the right. I think it turns into central drive. We're right next to the road.

    Where is crime busters rock?

    August 4, 2013

Bob, if you don't see this in time to meet Stephanie, please use the Google map included with the event invitation. Reply to this comment if you have trouble - I'll try to keep an eye on this thread till 6:30pm or so.

What subway stop is it near? What number street? Approx how many city blocks is the walk from the subway to the meetup spot? Recovering from foot surgery so I have to pace myself. Thanks.

    August 2, 2013

    • Deena

Hi Karen - the closest stop is Columbus Circle / 59th St. It's about a 10-minute / 0.5 mile walk from there (8-12 short city blocks).

      August 4, 2013

  • Karen

Hi, meeting at 59th & Columbus works well, thanks. Re: walking distance, I looked at the map u left and it's approx 1/2 mile which would be 10 blocks. Recovering from foot surgery this might be a lot...unless I'm reading the map incorrectly. Please let me know. Thanks.

    August 2, 2013

    • Deena

Hi Karen - ~0.5 miles is about right. Unfortunately, that's the distance to the closest subway station. I hope you can still make it, but if not, I wish you a speedy recovery and hope to see you next time!

Anyone want to meet up in Columbus Circle beforehand and go to the spot together? My navigational skills with Central Park are utterly awful, even with such a short distance.

A Park, in Central Manhattan. A Rock, that's not so easy to find within that Park. An Actor named Stephanie that breaks down the "prohibition wall" by introducing Three Monkeys to this Improv Group! We have guys hugging other guys and women skipping about like butterflys. You're allowed to step off the Rock in order to roll all over the grass, and, you also get to leave the Park with mud and grass stains all over your clothes... as you make your way over to The Three Monkeys, where "creative minds mingle" and monkey around over a couple of drinks - Where is this Group headed!?! Thanks Deena. Touche Stephanie:D

Hey guys, anyone want to see what looks to be a very interesting show at UCB tonight, featuring comedian Mike Bibigla and some SNL performers? If you go, I think online reservations are best because it said there will be a standby line at the door. Hope to see some folks there! http://newyork.ucbtheatre.com/performances/view/28937
