Phish Jam

Since this Meetup was created to focus on jam music, let's see if we can get a group together who want to use Phish as the 'book of tunes' for the jam. If you sign up, please be familiar with this music and able to play, sing and improvise around their simpler tunes. Stuff like Sand, Chalkdust, Wolfmans, Antelope, etc might be good to try initially, though I'm game to get into harder stuff too depending on the group.

I'll send around a list of suggested tunes before the session so let me know what you'd like to play when you RSVP. I think these jams work best if people come in knowing at least a few of the same songs.

I could also do next Wed 8/13 if that works better for more people. If these times don't work at all but you'd still like to get in on this kind of jam, let me know so I can try to set something up some other time.

I'll book a tbd Manhattan studio based on response. Let's try for a nice balanced group - so if another bass player, more than one drummer or many guitar players sign up, be game to sit back for part of the session.

Hope this works out, it would be a blast!

Hey guys. Hope all are enjoying the last touches of summer. Anyone doing couch tour this weekend? I'm psyched for new shows. Found out a bar in Port Chester is actually broadcasting 2 of them live - might check it out tomorrow night. Enjoy!

    August 29

    • Ed

Yep on couch, nope on port chester - sorry! Slight chance I'll make it to Subject on the LES for Sunday but I gots something else tonight.

      August 30

    • Larry

Ed - When I planned this, I didn't know about Subject - just learned about the place and the live simulcast Saturday afternoon. Wound up going Sat and Sun nights. Fun time.

I forget who (sorry - I think maybe Jeff?), but one of you told me about the Phish cover band, Lawn Boys, playing tonight at 9 at the Delancy in LES. I'm gonna check it out. Anyone else going?

I'm still sporting a big ol' grin from a great night of music! Keep your eyes peeled for the next one. Hit me up any time to propose scheduling, figure out some tunes or just chat Phish ad nauseum. ed_zeizel at mailc dot net.

  • Alejandro C.

Hey guys, this time around is gonna be tough for me, I am on call for the whole day, hope I can make it next week, enjoy!

    August 12

  • Ed

ended up booking Ultrasound, 6-9pm, studio 7. Going to be $19 each with 5 of us - Edmund and Jeff can you list yourselves as going on the meetup. 48 hour cancellation policy so please let me know before Sunday if you can't make it, I don't want to be stuck having to pay extra for this session.

Drummers, they have a conga and misc percussion we can use.

Tunes that have been mentioned: Sand, Chalkdust, Wolfman's, Antelope, Tweezer. Anything else?

    August 9

    • Ed

We have 3 guitars which I think should be fine, you should def come by, David. I've closed RSVPs for the session.

      August 10

    • Jeff L

Hey guys - ends up that I will be able to make it tonight. I'll probably get there a little late, maybe around 6:30.

      August 12

  • Michael

I'm going to try to make it to the Molly Wee for a pint of courage before the session.

    August 12

  • Larry

Hey guys - psyched for this. Been playing guitar a long time, mostly lead style (tho playing an acoustic these days). I love Phish - been immersed in the couch tour last month or so - but have never jammed on them before, so psyched to try.

    1 · August 10

  • Edmund T.

hey guys, confessional here: i'm not that familiar with phish but i think i can hold my own on guitar rhythm and fills if i get some advance prep time on the songs to be played. would that be okay? (it'd be great to learn from you guys too) or do you prefer all participants to be familiar with phish songs?

    August 8

    • Ed

I'd say stop on by, Edmund. My email is below, hit me up and I'll send you some of the tunes that have been mentioned so far.

      1 · August 9

    • Edmund T.

appreciate it, ed. lemme youtube those tunes mentioned above to get myself up to speed on them a bit more.

      August 9

  • David M.

6-9 would be my preference. Replay Studios in the W Village is beautiful and the gear is great!

    August 8

  • Michael

I know The Studio has congas.
Since I unicycle in from Jersey, I would be down with 6-9

    August 8

  • Ed

Ok cool I'm going to book this. Was going to try for a 2 hr session someplace on 30th st from 6-8pm. Will ask about congas. Lemme know pronto if this is a prob for anyone.

    August 8

  • Michael

I can make it to play drums. I m very familiar with the materials. Jeff, if you are going to make it please let me know as I can't really fill in on guitar with the Phish stuff.

    August 7

    • Michael

I have no problem with splitting the time. I may rent congas if they're available.

      August 8

    • Jeff L

      Sounds good.

      August 8

  • Michael

I have listened to the 2014 Columbia Maryland Tweezefest at least 12 times in the last week. We should throw a Tweezer in there.
As a beginner drummer this past tour has been great because Fishman is rockin' like a 5 piece kit and totally driving jams.

    August 7

  • David M.

I can play these songs with ease on guitar and even have a Languedoc clone and Trey Esque rig with boomerang looper fully equipped and ready to go. Should be fun!

    August 7

    • Ed

Solid! You want to throw a couple tunes out there that you'd like to work on? I'm happy to take a little time to brush up on tunes before the session.

      August 7

  • Ed

Thanks everyone for the interest! If you are interested in doing Phish jams but can't make next Tuesday, drop me an email with times that work. ed_zeizel at mailc dot net. I'll set up another in the next couple weeks.

    August 7

  • Jeff L

This sounds great. I'm a drummer and will definitely try to make it. Will keep you posted on my availability for the 12th.

    August 6

  • Ryan D

Def want to do this, I'll keep ya posted
    on availability for the 12th.

    August 5

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
