Beginners Ride @ Cunningham Park

Several people asked specifically for a beginner's ride during the group's meet up @ Top Hops. You asked and here is! Peter has offered to join us as a guide/ lead (thanks!).

Please have a working bike, helmet and plenty of water. Pads are suggested, too.

If you RSVP, please show up or cancel so we have an accurate head count.

Hey everyone, I too will be unable to make it. I had a fall yesterday off my bike and my ankle still isn't feeling tip top. Have a great ride and good luck!

Tony, sorry I lost you in the woods. I veered off the trail and ended up in the street. I went straight to my car from there. Thanks for everything. It was a lot of fun. Let's do it again.

I'm coming out from Chelsea on the F - anyone want to go out together? Am probably leaving from Union square where there is an elevator!

    October 12, 2012

    • mary ann h.

So I just checked and the F is working tomorrow (phew!). I googled elevator accessible stations and the F in Manhattan has elevators at 34th and 4th, so I am going to go to 34th (http://www.mta.info/a...) at about 7:20. I will try to get on the first car! planning on meeting everyone at 179th across the Dunkin Donuts at about 8:10. My cell is[masked]

Thanks Mary-Ann, good to know the F is actually going :). I'll hop on at around 7.30 (sigh) and see you either in the train or in Queens.

Hi Alex, (and anyone else thinking the same) don't worry and just come ready to have fun and give it a chance. We all have different styles and ultimately may find people we are more comfortable riding with on a regular basis - we are all always learning and everyone has been at the beginning once or many times after long breaks in riding :p Like Joe said- we will likely start with a slow loop to see how people feel and then we will likely have to break it up a little if needed.

well put kim......i would add that besides meeting new people...we are a mountain biking club....which may include riding our mountain bikes with ppl that may or may not have more skills .....personally im trying to advance my own skills....so even though im what your standards say are intermediate i look foward to meeting you guys and riding with everyone...so come on down.

      October 12, 2012

  • Alex

So, it looks like many of the people that are going are not really beginners by my standards... Given that I haven't been on a mountain bike since 2009 and that I was a beginner even then, I'm starting to question whether I should go.

    October 12, 2012

    • mary ann h.

Don't worry - I am definitely a beginner and have been to cunningham park once. It is sort of divided into two parts, one beginner and the other side intermediate. I did both and they were both fun. I haven't done a ride in over a year because there were very few beginner rides last summer, but it is a group that is very safety conscious and nice.

      October 12, 2012

    • Joe

I also have not ridden in awhile. Most likely they will do a loop of beginner and then see how people are feeling before the even consider anything else. No worries though because when I first started riding I did the beginner and intermediate/expert sections. It's nothing like Blue Mountain beginner/intermediate. You will be just fine. Just keep your own pace.

I thought this was a beginners ride. I am feeling to much ego here and don't need this. I am out.

Would love to join the ride but I would be coming from White Plains... no car... any options available to get me there? If not, no problem!

You're welcome! There's also a weekly Friday night ride there at 830p. More info at Climbonline.org. BTW, 'might wanna change the trail to "Cunningham" on the post.....don't hate ;-)
