Atlantic City in the summer has it all. The world's first Boardwalk, glittering casinos, beautiful and free casino lounges with lots of fantastic live music, casino-owned bars on the beach with even more live music, delicious buffets, fabulous restaurants, cool ocean breezes. And the new billion-dollar-plus Borgata Casino Hotel, an immensely beautiful, upscale hotel -- a marvel of modern architecture and style -- that is as hip and elegant as the very latest Las Vegas casino hotel masterpieces.
Atlantic City is the perfect place to sample lots of live music. The free casino lounges supply wonderful entertainment and an elegant atmosphere for the cost of a soda. It is incredibly fun to visit one lounge after the other while strolling down the Boardwalk from hotel to hotel. And the casino bars right on the beach are a blast of summertime fun and a lovely way to relax by the ocean while enjoying great music. And how literally cool it is to spend a beautiful summer night at these beach bars, with the Atlantic Ocean in front of you while the casinos are lit up behind you.
We'll start the day off at one of Atlantic City's all-you-can-eat gourmet buffets for lunch. We'll then take a leisurely stroll down the Boardwalk while we duck in and out of the best casino lounges to sample their fabulous entertainment.
There's a great new mall attached to the Tropicana Casino Hotel, called The Quarter. It's got tons of terrific, new restaurants, bars and nightclubs, as well as shopping.
There's a beautiful new shopping, restaurant and nightclub pier -- The Pier at Caesars. Built by Caesars Palace Hotel and Casino and extending 900 feet out into the Atlantic Ocean (with a street address of "One Atlantic Ocean"), it's a fantastic place to eat, party and shop. The top level is all upscale restaurants, and has a stunning view of the beach, the ocean and the rest of the casino hotels all lit up at night. And at the end of the pier, every hour on the hour, they've got a spectacular light, music and water show -- that's free.
This event is being co-sponsored by six of David Greene's Meetup groups. The six groups will be meeting together.
Since last year when I hosted a similar Atlantic City tour, people have been asking me to organize another one. Judging by all the requests for a repeat event, it is the most popular event I have ever organized. I had an extremely fun time myself. Many new friendships were made among us all. You are very welcome to join in on all the fun.
TRAVEL DETAILS
We'll be meeting at 10:00 AM, on line for the bus at Gate 80 at the Port Authority Bus Terminal. We'll catch the 10:30 AM bus to Caesars at Gate 80.
The first thing you should do when you get to the Port Authority Bus Terminal is go to the ticket selling booth (which is close to Gate 80) and buy your round-trip ticket to Atlantic City. The bus is called the Lucky Streak. Be sure to specify that you want a round-trip ticket from the Port Authority to Atlantic City. Tickets are $35 roundtrip, and you usually get back $20 in cash (so the roundtrip ticket ends up costing only $15).
After buying your ticket, look for me, David Greene. I am 6'5" and will be wearing a yellow baseball cap with the words "Coney Island" on the front in black letters. We'll all be lining up for the 10:30 AM bus at Gate 80.
The great thing about going by Greyhound from the Port Authority is that you can catch Greyhound buses going back from Atlantic City to the Port Authority 24 hours a day. That means that you are not locked in to returning at 6:00 PM, as you are if you take a local "bodega" bus. We are suggesting a 1 AM return time for those of us who want to stay all day and into the night. But feel free to leave earlier or later, at 9 PM, 10 PM, 11 PM, or even 3 AM -- it's up to you! That is the convenience and flexibility of travelling roundtrip from the Port Authority.
Those who wish to travel by car may do so of course. Email me and we'll make arrangements to meet in Atlantic City.
