What's New in Recruitment for 2009

Hello Talent Acquisition Guru, Our next monthly Recruiting networking party @ Mustang Sally's Saloon is coming up Tuesday, February 17th. There will be networking and DEMOS not sales pitches form several gurus. Come network with the other members of our ERE and Meetup group. Presenters:

  • Jordan Rosenberg - www.Monster.com, you've heard about the "new" Monster from blogs, news, and peers. Now come see and hear it from Monster itself.

  • Linda Paul - www.meetup.com, will demonstrate how Meetup itself uses a Meetup group as part of their talent acquisition strategy. Her Meetup group is: http://www.meetup.com... "Working@Meetup"

  • Mike Cunningham - www.wantedtech.com, There so much confusion in this market, see how having on-demand intelligence for the employment marketplace and building insight into employment market conditions and trends will give you clarity into any bad or good market.

There will be 15 minute demos/presentations, plus 5 minutes of Q&A. There will be Networking before and after the demonstrations. When you get to Mustang Sally's Saloon (at 324 7th Ave Bet. 29/28 Sts.) ask hostess for the VIP room (aka backroom). To offset the cost of the location and the fees Meetup.com charges, there will be a $10 charge for this event. All the best...Ernest

While both speakers were pleasant enough, they really didn'thave much to say that was useful or uniquely insightful for a methodical technical recruiter. The discussion about Meetup itself was cordial but only of interest if it was intended to indicate they had some openings so we could work on them, I suspect.
The other person discussed a statitical package that could only be of theoretical value or perhaps for a high -volume organization seeking heuristic information to find leads. Otherwise it's the kind of information that is of interest only in an ancillary sense.
Certainly there was some friendly discussion and the speakers offered a general positivity in their tone. That wasn't enough to justify having a meetup.
