Welcome to "NYC Socrates Café!"
Socrates Cafe groups are held all over the world - all groups are similar in many ways, but each is also unique in its own way. The purpose of this group is to bring together people who enjoy discussing philosophical ideas in a roundtable setting. The group focuses on a new topic each month and all members have a chance to share their ideas. At Socrates Cafe, everyone is a teacher and everyone is a student - we all have brilliance to offer. Together we can contribute to building a deeper understanding of some of life's thornier questions.
The group will meet around once a month from 7-9 PM. Meeting place is at a spacious café near Herald Square. The first half of the meeting will be a general discussion of the central question. The second half will be a discussion of more specific aspects and questions about the topic.
With some flexibility, we will be going around the table (with an option to 'pass') so that everyone has the opportunity to speak. There will also be open discussion as time allows.
Note: Take a look at topic ideas under the 'discussion' tab. Look for the 'Current List of Topics' discussion heading. The list of topic ideas will be added to at the end of each meetup and by member emails (topic ideas may be edited or reworded for clarity).
Looking forward to sharing a community that supports 'the examined life'!
