Week 2: Giants vs. Buccaneers 10AM KICKOFF***EARLY GAME****

Dear New York Fans Unite San Francisco,

Uggh well, at least the bar was fun…..Last week didn’t go as planned. But then again when the Giants are favored when do they…But that is what being a Giant fan is all about. You take the good with the bad. Let’s get everyone back to Aces this Sunday to cheer on the New York Football Giants host the Tampa Buccaneers.

This week the Giants host the Tampa Buccaneers led by 4th year vet Josh Freeman. The Bucs are not a team the Giants can sleep on. They have a new coach, new wide receiver in Vincent Jackson, veteran tight end Dallas Clark and a dynamic backfield led by Doug Martin. Martellus Bennett will be also welcoming his older brother Michael Bennett defensive end for the Bucs. Given the Giants weakness in the secondary, Jackson’s size and speed will be a real test. The Giants defense has to get pressure on Freeman to limit his progressions and put him on his back in order to take pressure of the secondary (24th against the pass). They also have to be aggressive against the run. The Bucs have three young and talented running backs including Danny Ware (27th against the run). There is no room for the defense to come out flat (27th in total yards allowed).

The Giants offense continues the woes from last year. The offensive line really struggled to keep pressure off of Manning (26th in total yards). They were just as bad getting off the line and providing any push down field to help the Giants running attack (27th in rushing). The Giants offense is predicated on Manning’s ability to run the play action. With no running game the passing game suffers and play calling gets becomes unbalanced. Not to mention they mightily struggle in 3rd down possessions in this situations. Last week the Giants converted 25% of their 3rd downs. The play calling was horrendous with 19 rushing attempts compared to 32 passing attempts. With no running game, no passing game and converting 25% of their third downs it’s no wonder they lose the time of possession game by almost 10 minutes. As a result our defense was always on the field and this is not a formula for success given the secondary's health issues.

In order to win games the Giants MUST:

  • Win time of possession
  • High 3rd down efficiency (+40%)
  • Balanced play calling (min 40/60 either way)

This week is the first early game of the year at 10:00am kickoff. Prepare the coffee makers; get your gear ready and head on over to Aces to cheer on the G-MEN.
