"In the Wilderness" a play by John Kearns

Local Irish American author, John Kearns,  will be staging his latest play this spring at The Bleeker Street Theatre. John is the author of two books: The World (a novel) and Dreams and Dull Realities (Short Stories), full length plays: In the Wilderness, Designers with Dirty Faces, In a Bucket of Blood, Sons of Molly Maguire, Resignations and one-act plays: "The Importance of Loving Shakespeare," "World Piece," "I Knew You'd Say That!", "Hanging Questions," and "Copy 8852" (collaboration with Jason Szalla.)

Please join an outstanding cast and crew upstairs at the Bleecker Street Theatre for a production of the newly rewritten, "In the Wilderness," a poignant, funny, bittersweet drama about teachers and students in the 1980s' South Bronx.

At Saint Philomena’s all-girls high school, dispirited teacher Paul Logan decides that if he can get just one student to be successful, then his efforts will be worthwhile. Can the smart, sexy poetess, Carmen Marquez, be the one Paul is hoping for?

"In the Wilderness" focuses on the relationship between Paul and Carmen with all of its joys, frustrations, victories, setbacks, temptations, and sacrifices.

At the six performances of In the Wilderness, we will be raising money and awareness for The Mercy Center for Women in the South Bronx, the poorest zip code in the United States.

"In the Wilderness" is directed by Richard P. Butler
Produced by Boann Books and Media LLC and Mark Butler
