NY Quantified Self Show&Tell #21 (NYU ITP)

Hello QSers!

Thursday, May 30th is our next NY QS Meetup. Please come out and share your methods, results and insight with the group during the Show&Tell talks or, if you're a toolmaker, come share during Demo Hour and get feedback from the QS community in a more informal setting.

6:00 -7:00 pm DEMO HOUR & SOCIAL TIME
Are you a toolmaker? Come demo your gadget, app or project that you're working on and share with others in our "science fair for adults." Want to participate in Demo Hour? Please let us know when you RSVP or fill out this entry form to apply for a spot: http://bit.ly/15LGf4V

7:00 - 8:00 pm QS SHOW & TELL TALKS
This is our main event of the evening. We're looking for talks of personal accounts of self-tracking and self-experimentation.

If you'd like to give a talk, please let us know when you RSVP so we can discuss your topic and how much time you'll need. We keep the length of presentations to 5 minutes + 5 minutes for Q&A. If you have slides to show, feel free but it's not required. Giving a Show&Tell talk and our three prime questions.

8:00 - 8:45 pm MORE SOCIAL TIME & NETWORKING
Talk to the speakers, chat with new and old friends, ask other people what they're tracking, and generally hang out and have a great time.

QS SPONSORS: OUR THANKS TO PROJECTIVE SPACE
An incredible space is generously being provided by NYU ITP, a two-year graduate program located in the Tisch School of the Arts whose mission is to explore the imaginative use of communications technologies.

We hope to see you on the 30th.

Steve

This was my first QS event as well. What a great group of people! I very much enjoyed each of the presentations, by some inspiring and passionate people using quantification to drive changes in their lives.

I particularly liked andre's sleep schedule modification and appreciate the detail he shared in tracking its impact on his productivity and energy level.

Anyone want to buy a Basis watch from me? I'd rather sell it here than on ebay.

    May 29, 2013

    • Josh K.

How much? How much have you used it? Finally, why are you selling it?

      May 29, 2013

    • Jolly

Ended up selling it to a friend. Mostly selling because they are going for a crazy price premium, since basis is so back ordered.

Don't mean to spam, but this felt very on topic -- we are working on a private beta of an Android pedometer (>95% accuracy, <3% battery use) with social motivation. It's called Noom Walk and I would love to hear your feedback on it tonight -- just open this link on your phone -- http://www.noom.com/walk/download.php?source=qsb

Artem, we have Demo Hour prior to main presentations. Perhaps, you could do a demo session; but please confirm with Steven Dean.

Interest in nutrition/biometrics prompted by recent purchase of a Polar FT-80 and articles about FitBit and sleep monitoring. Diet is at the root of all of this. So why no "Quicken" equivalent for complete planning/shopping/cooking/diet management? Seems there are only piecemeal solutions missing one critical piece or another. Astonishing gap in the software market, or have I just missed it?. Curious to see where this topic sits in the QS community.

Not trying to shamelessly self-promote, but this is exactly what we are trying to build at Noom -- we even say that Intuit is our main inspiration :) There is a lot to build there, but we are working on it -- already 18M users down, 6B to go :) And yes, MyFitnessPal, LoseIt, SparkPeople are also in the space -- it is a big enough space for a lot of players and a lot of approaches. We put our emphasis on simplicity & motivation. Let's talk at the meeting.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
