NY Quantified Self Show&Tell #22 (NWC)

  • Aug 15, 2013 · 6:30 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

Hello QSers!

Our next meetup is on Thursday, August 15th. We'll start 30 minutes later than usual.

Please come out and share your methods, results and insight with the group during the Show&Tell talks or, if you're a toolmaker, come share during Demo Hour and get feedback from the QS community in a more informal setting.

6:30 -7:30 pm DEMO HOUR & SOCIAL TIME
Are you a toolmaker? Come demo your gadget, app or project that you're working on and share with others in our "science fair for adults." Want to participate in Demo Hour? Please let us know when you RSVP or fill out this entry form to apply for a spot:

7:30 - 8:30 pm QS SHOW & TELL TALKS
This is our main event of the evening. We're looking for talks of personal accounts of self-tracking and self-experimentation.

If you'd like to give a talk, please let us know when you RSVP so we can discuss your topic and how much time you'll need. We keep the length of presentations to 5 minutes + 5 minutes for Q&A. If you have slides to show, feel free but it's not required. Giving a Show&Tell talk and our three prime questions.

Talk to the speakers, chat with new and old friends, ask other people what they're tracking, and generally hang out and have a great time.

An incredible space is generously being provided by NWC, one of downtown's amazing co-working spaces.

We hope to see you on the 15th.

I had a great time at the meetup and learned a lot! I also had a chance to talk about my attention-retraining and stress reduction app called Personal Zen, and several of you wanted to know when it would be available. Well, it's now up on the App Store - for free! If you're interested in checking it out, please do. Any and all feedback would be really appreciated. I'm also really interested in thoughts on how we could evolve this app to be of use to the QS community interested in tracking negative and positive styles of attention, which can impact your anxiety and stress.

Look up Personal Zen on the App Store or:

    Our (very basic) website is:

Congrats on the release of Ver 1.0 (or is this the Beta?) of Personal Zen, Tracy. I've loaded the app on my phone and am looking forward to trying it out and providing feedback; one quick thought is that it might be useful, on your website, to provide more information about the neuroscientific and cognitive theory that your hoping to apply with PZ. That might make individual evaluations more well informed.

It's a beta because we are continuing to refine game play and are really excited to get lots of user feedback! But it is a beta that my research suggests really works. Thanks for checking it out. I agree that having a whole research section on the website would be great. I have some data I can put up, too. I was just waiting for a certain critical mass of findings from our lab to do that, but I agree - the scientific background would be helpful! I'll get on that, thanks :)

I had really good time. Can't wait for the next one. Curious if anyone is into neurofeedback?

This was my first QS meetup and it was great. I'm looking forward to the next one. I wanted to share with the group that my team of neuroscience researchers at Rutgers has developed a data extraction app for the mobile Zeo, on Android. We are using this technology in an NSF funded study of sleep and cognition, thus needed to implement a method to extract our data, after the website went down. Let me know if you are interested in this app, or in helping us to refine it as it is in a "beta" mode currently, although usable for us. There were a couple of apps and projects that were of great interest to me, and my research, as well so I'm looking forward to the followup emails from those demo providers!

There's a good thread on the QS forums that discusses alternative ways to get data off of your Zeo - https://forum.quantifi...

Hi all - thanks for your posts and interest. The app is a utility we were forced to create for the Mobile Zeo, in order to continue our study. Richard, sounds like you have a bedside Zeo unit. As Bob mentions, there are several methods available to get your data off of a bedside unit. If you need further guidance, send me an email and I can point you in the right direction for that. Looking forward to demo'ing my app for modifying negative habits of attention that, once shifted, can reduce and inoculate against stress/anxiety. In process of developing attention tracking capacity and would love feedback from QS community.

Had a fantastic time and met some really, really interesting people. Had a blast talking to people about Beeminder, and picked up some extremely useful information to enhance my own QS system. Thank you & look forward to the next one!!

Awesome. This was my first, but not my last. The demos and Show & Tell talks were really interesting, and the audience for my talk asked great questions.

Hi all, looking forward to Thursday (first QS event for me), I'm trying to develop an app that is all about tracking and maintaining healthy relationships, would be very interested in connecting with developers/entrepreneurs in this space - am seeking to find a cofounder/team and build a prototype of what I think is a very interesting and fresh space, I'm at [masked], thanks
