NY Quantified Self Show&Tell #15 (212)

  • Feb 22, 2012 · 6:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

Come join us in February for a night of talks on self-tracking and monitoring where you, the members of our NY Quantified Self community, share ideas, tools and experiments. If you are self-tracking in any way -- life-logging, biometrics, mood, sleep, pain, happiness, energy, etc -- come and share your methods, results and insight.

Come early, connect with others and share your interest in QS. We'll have refreshments to get us started.

7:00 - 8:30 pm QS SHOW & TELL TALKS

Presentations will start at 7pm. We save the talks for personal accounts of self-tracking and self-experimentation, rather than sales pitches. We're also interested in gadgets or tools that you've built to track something about yourself.

If you'd like to give a talk, please let us know in advance so we can discuss your topic and how much time you'll need. We keep the length of presentations to 5 minutes + 5 minutes for Q&A. If you have slides to show, feel free but it's not required.

An incredible space is generously being provided by Fahrenheit 212, an innovation consultancy that creates new products, brands and businesses in some really creative ways.

We use sponsor money to pay for professional video recording and some decent refreshments, as well as to fund projects that help the larger QS community. If you or your company are interested in sponsoring Quantified Self, please let us know.

Hope to see you on the 22nd.

Steve and Brian, where can I find the title of the presentations and name of the presenters from this week's event? I know this information will eventually make it on to the quantified self website but is it posted anywhere yet?

Overall, i really enjoyed the meetup. The projects discussed demonstrated how QS could be applied to achieve positive results in a variety of circumstances.

I enjoyed meeting other attendees and hearing about what they were working on. If there was more open space available - it might encourage more interaction amongst attendees.

A suggestion for future meetings - during the first hour, could the evening's presenters set up stations (laptops) in an open area where they could talk about their work? Attendees could go from station to station to get some idea of what is in store for the evening. It would be a good starting point for people to discuss in small groups - and would encourage people to introduce themselves. It seemed like all the presenters had plenty to say - and this would be a good way to have a more personal dialog with the attendees.

Last nights, QS meetup was pretty great. I was able to capture a lot of interesting perspectives and insights about self tracking that I hope to apply to my own endeavors. Not to mention, there were a lot of inspirational stories, as always.

Content was great, but all but 1 speak went over time, and so meetup went over time. Would be great if time standards were more rigorously followed.

I really appreciate how people are sharing stories about their struggles and how they are using innovation to overcome them. QS is about self help that actually works. I gave this 3 out of 5 stars to leave room for the hacker enthusiasts who blow us away with their craft and inspire
