"Well, let's say this Twinkie represents the normal amount of psychokinetic energy in the New York area. Based on this morning's sample, it would be a Twinkie...thirty-five feet long, weighing approximately six hundred pounds." ~ Dr. Egon Spengler

Ghostbusters was released 30 years ago in June of 1984. The film tells the story of a group of New York City paranormal investigators/exterminators. Being based in New York City the film was mostly shot in the city, which means that it's fun and easy to visit the many places around the city where the film was shot!

NY Sci-Fi & Fantasy is celebrating the 30th Anniversary of Ghostbusters by hosting a city tour of the Ghostbusters' sites, then hosting a showing of the movie and cartoons (sign up HERE).

The tour will last from 2pm to 5pm and will visit Columbia University, Lincoln Center, the "Shandor" Building, the Tavern on the Green, Columbus Circle, the NY Public Library, and Hook and Ladder 8. Details are below:

The tour will begin at 2pm at Columbia University (we'll meet at campus' entrance by the 116th 1 train stop):

Columbia University is where Dr. Peter Venkman, Dr. Raymond Stantz, and Dr. Egon Spengler worked in the Psychology Department before they lost there jobs. Peter and Ray come up with the idea of forming the Ghostbusters on the east side of Columbia's campus.

We'll then move via the 1 train to Lincoln Center:

Lincoln Center is where Peter meets up with Dana again and convinces her to go on a date with him!

From Lincoln Center we'll walk to the Shandor Building and the Tavern On The Green:

The "Shandor" Building, 55 Central Park West, is the building Dana lives in that was built by Ivo Shandor, a worshiper of Gozer. The Tavern On the Green is the restaurant that Louis Tully runs to when he's being chased by the demon Vinz Clortho, the "Keymaster."

From there we'll walk to Columbus Circle:

Columbus Circle is were Louis, possessed by the Keymaster, asks a horse if he's the gate keeper.

From Columbus Circle we'll travel via the B/D train to the NY Public Library:

The NY Public Library is where the movie begins, and where Peter, Ray and Egon encounter the ghost of a dead librarian which sends them running frightened out of the building.

From the Library we will travel via the 1 train to Hook and Ladder 8:

Hook and Ladder 8, located at 14 N Moore St in TriBeCa, is the old firehouse the Ghostbusters buy and convert into their headquarters. They use it not only to conduct business but to house all the ghosts they've trapped through their work.

From the firehouse we'll take the 6 train north to Stone Creek, where at 5pm we'll begin watching the Ghostbuster cartoons and movie (sign up HERE).

If you are coming from UES, there is a children's parade on 3rd Ave from 96th to 117th Streets that will affect the buses.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
