“In every generation a Writer is born. One author in all the world. The Chosen One. He alone will write about the vampires, the slayers, the shiny, and the forces of Horribleness. He is The Scripter.”
Things don’t get much better than watching the Jossverse with other Whedonfans, so let’s kick back, and watch some of the greatness of all things Whedon.
NOTE: This event filled up in less than 2 hours, but oftentimes people have a change in plans and spaces open up. If you're interested in coming, please add yourself to the waitlist!
Final (partially vague) viewing order:
1. Mystery episode - written by Jane Espenson
2. The Left Hand (Dollhouse) - written by Tracy Bellomo
3. Spin the Bottle (Angel) - written/directed by Joss Whedon
4. Mystery episode - written by Joss Whedon (plus extra surprises!)
5. Our Mrs Reynolds (Firefly) - written by Joss Whedon
6. Dopplegangland (Buffy) - written/directed by Joss Whedon
Update #1 - I said I'd put up what we're watching, and a few people have been asking. While I'm going to keep a couple things surprises, the following episodes will be shown this Saturday, although the order has yet to be determinded:
- Dopplegangland – Buffy, season 3 (written/directed by Joss Whedon)
- Spin the Bottle Angel, season 4 (written/directed by Joss Whedon)
- Our Mrs Reynolds – Firefly, season 1 (written by Joss Whedon)
- The Left Hand – Dollhouse, season 2 (written by Tracy Bellomo)
Update #2 - I'm sure many of us were affected by Hurricane Sandy. I was fortunate and didn't even lose my power. I hope that everyone was able to stay safe and warm during the storm.
Unfortunately, a very close coworker of mine was not so fortunate. Joe is the closest thing I have to a father figure and his home was mostly destroyed. The structure looks like it will hold, but he lost everything on the first floor and basement of his home, and also lost a friend of his and that friend's son. I've started a fundraising campaign at www.indiegogo.com/ABKSandy and am doing what I can to help him out. Any donations to help him rebuild are extremely appreciated, and sharing that link on any social media is priceless. Stone Creek has generously offered 10% of the NY SciFi & Fantasy Whedonthon bar tab to go to this fund, so please eat and drink for charity! I will also be collecting donations at the event for Joe (or if you prefer a general donation, I will absolutely take donations that will go to the Red Cross directly - there are so many people who need help right now).
Update #3 - I explained to the Stone Creek staff how many people were on our waitlist for this event, and they said they could maximize seating, so I was able to open this event up to more people than usual! It may be a bit crowded, but 2012 has proven to be "The Year of Joss".
Update #4 - I am happy to say that there will be raffle prizes at this event! For years we've had them for Whedonthon when it was a house party, and I wanted to continue that tradition. The prizes will be raffled during our intermission. No purchase needed for this raffle - only luck!
Three years ago Whedonthon was the first event I hosted for this group. It was so successful, we decided we'd make it an annual event. Join us for the 4th Annual Whedonthon marathon, celebrating all things Joss!
2012 has taken Joss Whedon to another level with two films written and/or directed by him, including the number one box office flick of the year! The first three years of this event were held at my apartment, but last year there ended up with such a long waitlist that this year the event is being expanded to accommodate more people, and Stone Creek recently got in a huge projetion screen in the back room that we'll be able to watch on!
Here's what we've watched at past Whedonthons:
- Once More With Feeling
- Smile Tme
- Dr. Horrible’s Sing-A-Long Blog
- Original unaired Buffy pilot
- Commentary: The Musical!
- Man on the Street
- Becoming: Parts 1& 2
- You’re Welcome
- Seeing Red
- The Body
- Hole in the World
We will NOT be watching any of the above this year.
The first two years we catered towards introducing new people to the Wonderful World of Whedon, and last year we showed how cruel Joss can be. This year there's another theme to the episodes picked (much more light-hearted than last year!), and I'll reveal the viewing list shortly.
4:00pm - socialize, grab a seat
5:00pm/5:30pm-ish - start watching a whole lotta Joss (in two blocks, with a break in between)
Where to Find Us: We will be meeting in the back room of the bar.
Food and Drinks: The bar has both, so bring your money. Tip your server!
