On Tuesday August 26th, at 7:00 the Napa Valley Meditation Group will host a talk by mindful meditation instructor Chris McKenna.
Chris is Program Director at Mindful Schools, a leading organization integrating mindfulness into education. He has served as the Executive Director of the Mind Body Awareness Project, and helped published the first formal research on the impact of mindfulness programming on youth in the U.S. juvenile probation system. Chris has also spent over a decade working with diverse communities suffering from high incidents of trauma and violence, including victims of torture and war crimes. He is on the Advisory Council of “Honoring the Path of the Warrior” – a project of the San Francisco Zen Center which teaches mindfulness and somatic awareness techniques to U.S. soldiers returning home from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Each meeting NVMG will generally follow the following structure:
- 7:00 pm Meditation sitting begins
- Sitting meditation: 30 minutes
- Short break for tea and greetings: 15 minutes
- Group reading and discussion of Buddhist text: 30 - 45 minutes
- 8:30 pm Meeting ends
