Ottawa's Midwest Morel Fest
With the preservation of the Dayton Bluffs Preserve this past summer, we became part of Starved Rock Country and have been amazed at the opportunities for fun and connection with nature in this unique and beautiful part of our state.
The Midwest Morel Fest happening May 2nd and 3rd is one such opportunity with a flavor all its own. The festival kicks off at 4pm on Friday, May 2nd with Morel University, a seminar on identifying and hunting the morel mushroom, found typically in moist areas near dead or dying trees. Once you have been taught the ways of the Great Morel, you will board a bus and head for the woods for a guided educational hunt.
On Saturday, May 3rd, things get serious with the competitive hunt, morel auction and Morel Mash Up, a home brew tasting.
Members of The Conservation Foundation will receive a $5 discount on registration for the Friday evening educational hunt; just use discount code MOR514.
Don't miss this chance to get out into nature and get a real taste of Starved Rock Country!
