One-Shot RPG! - World of Darkness

World of Darkness: Zombie Apocalypse!

Game Master: Frank Super

Player limit: 5

A World of Darkness (New Edition)

World of Darkness is a modern horror game from White Wolf Game Studios.  This is the new iteration of their World of Darkness series, featuring the new version of their Storyteller system.   The mood of the game is a darker reflection of our world…crime is a little worse, corruption more rampant, hope a bit more distant.  The game system is designed with enough generality to potentially showcase any sort of horror story.

This one-shot adventure will run a scenario set during a zombie apocalypse, where you shall play normal people from various backgrounds and walks of life, struggling to survive in a world spiraling into chaos. This game will play similar to The Walking Dead, where a strong focus will be character development and surviving in an apocalyptic world.  While there will certainly be combat, using avoidance and survival tactics will also play a crucial part of this game.

The game system uses dice in multiples of 10s.  The system is set up so that each point of a stat, skill, or ability is represented by a d10, which are combined to form dice pools, with circumstances either adding to or subtracting from that pool.

Pre-generated character sheets will be provided.  Some customization will be allowed.

What you will need to play the game:

-         Game Dice: d10s (optional)

-         Pen/Pencil and Paper.

-         Miniatures (optional)

*Due to the content of this game, this game has been deemed for players ages 16+.  Thank you for your cooperation.

Additional note from your Meetup organizers

Naperville Freaks, Geeks, and Weirdos is happy to welcome Fair Game customers to join us in enjoying this one-shot adventure RPG Meetup event.  Fair Game customers, you will need to join our Meetup page and RSVP yourself to the game of your choice if you wish to have a guaranteed seat.  We highly recommend you do this as games have limited seats.  If a game is already full, you are welcome to add yourself to the wait list and you will be notified if a spot opens up.

To all members:

Due to the limited number of seats per game, the attendance policy will be strictly enforced.  You are expected to arrive at Fair Game no later than 3:00pm and be ready to game until the game ends or the store closes at 9:00pm, whichever comes first.  Please review the Attendance Policy in the discussion thread if you have any questions.

You will only sign up to participate in one game of your choice.

For anyone questioning, "Why no Pathfinder or D&D 4E games?" - Most local game hubs already cater to running D&D and Pathfinder games.  We love those game systems as much as the next person, but it’s time to give some of the other games we love the spotlight for a change.

Finally, please respect the GM of this game.  This event would not be possible without them.  Thank you!

Fantastic game Frank! Loved all the role-playing and how you made each character connected to the plot. You explained the World of Darkness mechanics well and your zombie story felt like an episode of the Walking Dead.

"Excuse me, but do you have any zombies?"

Oh, sorry, I actually can't make it this weekend. I really want to, though -- I hope you do it again some time. Sorry if I screwed up the game balance.

Nope, you're fine. I'll jump back in then. I just didn't mind bouncing to another game if you wanted to play.

I'm going to bounce into a different game so Mike in the wait list can play.

Is this game's learning curve too steep for someone who's never played before?

    • Frank

No, not at all. The game is focused heavily on story, and the game mechanic is pretty straightforward. :)
