13th Age Organized Play - Crown of the Lich King (Part 1)

Tales of 13th Age

Crown of the Lich King

Part 1 - The Prisoner of Roachdale

Game Master: Ben Roby

Player limit: 5

Adventure prelude…

This is a six week adventure.  You and your party have been hired to steal a crown that is in the possession of the Lich King.  His skull fortress is located at the centre of an every-shifting maze and it is there that the crown is located.  You and your party must rescue the only person to know the layout of the maze - an adventurer that went missing near Roachdale, a village in the Fangs.

-----------------------------------

About the game…

13th Age is a new fantasy roleplaying game, designed by Jonathan Tweet – lead designer of Dungeons & Dragons® third edition – and Rob Heinsoo, the lead designer of the fourth edition of D&D®. 13th Age honors old school fantasy role-playing values as it dives deep into rich story telling adventures. The game features a familiar d20-style system, but it lighter on the rules compared to D&D which results in smoother, free-flowing combat. An Escalation Die rule that keeps battles fast and exciting by giving characters an escalating combat bonus the longer they fight.

The game focuses on connecting players to the world they are in through the use of background-based skills as well as detailed relationships with the key movers and shakers of the world – The Icons. Adventures will encourage creative and imaginative ways to solve the challenges set before them.

The adventure is crafted for 4-5 players.  The majority of mechanical character development will be completed in advance with 10 available pre-generated characters.  Players will be able to select from these and develop their background, Icon relationships  and their place in their world before diving into the adventure itself.

Players will need to bring pen and paper and if possible, a small collection of dice (d4,d6, d8, d10, d12, d20).  Since character creation will be done at the table, a basic character concept is encouraged but not required.  If players would like to bring miniatures of their own, they are welcome to do so, but a large variety will be available to use if you do not have any.

Most excellent adventure. Good mix of storytelling and whupping baddies. I'm starting to get into this sorcerer.... and I probably got to do and learn a lot more about playing sorcerers since there were only the three of us. My gain. :-D

13th Age books should be hitting game store shelves by August 5th, maybe sooner. We should be getting our pre-order book by mail any day now. If we don't have it by Sunday we will run off a .pdf copy for the first session.

Ash Law mentioned that they were all shipped out last week. " If you haven't received your book by early next week and want to follow up on that contact Cat Tobin ([masked])."

Thanks for the reminder. Looks like most of the USA folks haven't gotten theirs yet, if the Pelgrane boards are any indication, but I'll stay on top of this. I'm pretty sure I got an e-mail recently verifying my address, but that might have been for one of the other kickstarters I'm supporting. (I can't keep track of 'em.)

I can run the game with anywhere between 1 and 5 players. It will just be a little more intimate of an adventure. If more people attend at a later date, the more the merrier! I'm putting together the characters tonight, looking forward to gaming with you all tomorrow!

I can't attend this week (Frank's Next campaign) or next week (moving daughter into college) but I'm hoping to be able to join up after that.

Hi folks! All of you are amazing and never give us anything to complain about, but I wanted to give a few quick friendly reminders on player etiquette among other things.

Table space - 13th Age is a newly release game and as such does not have anywhere near the following that Pathfinder or D&D have spent years building (yet!). Please leave larger tables for the Pathfinder / D&D groups that will be sharing the space with us. Don't worry, the "smaller" tables still have plenty of space for us to play comfortably! I say smaller in quotes because they still seat 6+ people just fine. There's extra folding chairs in the closet in the back if we need them. Noise - Please keep in mind Fair Game is a family friendly store. We all know RPGs can be exciting, but please refrain from explicit language at the table and use your inside voices. :)

You, our awesome members, have always supported the Meetup group. We ask that you also extend that support to the businesses that make our Meetup events possible. Hosting organized play is a new endeavor for us and we want to keep it a positive one. We have no doubt you guys and gals will exceed our expectations with this as you always have. We look forward to seeing you all on Sunday! Thanks for reading! :) -Sarah & Ben

Reserving our spot, but I'll know by Wednesday if we'll be able to make it work with our weekend plans. This sounds so fun, and we're dying to game with you guys!

No, signing up for one adventure does not commit you to all six events. Each session will have it's own start and end, but the main quest will not be completed until week six. We understand asking people to sign up for six weeks is a big commitment so we are prepared to adjust different players in week by week.

  • Brian C.

If you sign up for one of these, are you expected to attend all 6 weeks? Because that may be a bit difficult...
