First ever meetup experience. Got to meet the fine folks at Naperville Freaks, Geeks, and Weirdos. Felt like a teaser rather than initiation. Looking forward to future meetups.
Movie was better than expected. Awesome effects and great military thrill. Tad bit predictable plot but extremely enjoyable nonetheless.

Also, I can lobby distributors and the like AND boycott the film. Two birds and all that. (And while I see your point about the plot, I also see themes of xenophobia, child soldiers, and war = answer, so it's not all pure. I would explain more, but that's spoiler territory.)

I would love to join but it might be a bit of a challenge to make it there in time after work... on my bike. I will try and make it.
Also since everyone's talking about it, I don't see the reason to boycott this movie since I don't think Card will suffer from it much. If anything this whole boycott thing is drawing more attention to the movie and the original work.
He's not getting any milestone cash bonus nor was the creative lead of the movie. I think the movie is thus independent enough of the philosophical influence and financial relevance to the original's author to justify me watching it at the theaters. I will however boycott the book since I think that's where it'll hit Card the most (you know being the NYT bestseller and all).

I seldom take part in online debates, but having read an incredible article in the very liberal Huffington post (you can read it too at http://www.huffingtonpost.com/emma-rubysachs/call-off-the-enders-game_b_4140087.html) I agree with attorney Ruby Sachs, a very verbal member of the LGBT community. This story (NOT the Author) represents everything we want to endorse. I think people should know enough to object to the wrong ideas - not just attack the people who say them....Just sayin,...I will be there with bells on...it's a great story.

We are having a 24 hour Extra Life charity event on Nov 2nd at Fair Game store in Downers Grove. Trying not to schedule too many events on top of that in hopes that most people can come out to join us play games & help support kids. :)
