Fish the canals off of 41 down towards Everglades City

The beach fishing has been a bit slow lately. So I cancelled the Naples Beach outing for now and will go with that destination another time. Instead we'll drive down Route 41 a ways. There are 2-3 places down there. One of them is Sea Grape Drive, which was recommended to me by couple of people . It's in the Big Cypress National Preserve. We will meet at 8 a.m., Saturday, February 1, at the 7-Eleven at 12750 Tamiami Trail East, Naple, FL 34113, near the southwest corner of Collier Blvd (951) and Tamiami Trail East (951).  People who want can carpool from there, though some may want their own car in case some want to stay longer than others.  From the 7-11, it's 26.7 miles, 28 minutes to the entrance to Big Cypress. In addition to Sea Grape, there are other places to fish near there, including Turner River.

Final count today, two fisherman (Steve Rothman and Bob Easton); 3 fish (2 alligator gars, that put up a pretty good fight, both caught fly fishing on Turner River (small green fly on floating line, 12 lb leader. Third fish looked like a Cichlid, but maybe not. I brought 4 dozen live shrimp, but nobody want to eat them. All the fish were caught on flies or jigs. We also saw a manatee and, oh yes, plenty of gators, and a ton of interesting birds. The ranger at the National Park station said try not to release fish right in front of the gator, because he'll start to associate people with easy meals. We moved around a bit, Sea Grape Road, some spots across the canal from the visitor center, the Turner River. At Visitor Center there were fish everywhere but they didn't want to play. All in all a pleasant 1/2 day. We probably started fishing about 9, and packed it in around 1:30. The alligator gar were still hungry when we left and had we stayed the count would have been better.

Bass fishing was a little slow with top water but clouds moved in, did reel in 6 all about 16", yes lost a big one and my lure. I believe new stronger line needed. Fished all down Immocklee Rd from Livingston to Palm river, if you fish there say hello to Gator he's getting big but leaves you alone. Still deciding on this weekend looks like a sunny warm weekend coming.

I just happen to be off saturday 25th and sunday 26th this weekend so, hitting the canals for some bass fishing. I jump around place to place from Collier rd south, up to Immokolee rd, then down to Airport rd. some places are tricky to pull off of do to traffic. So I'll be the one in white chevy truck throwing top water. Warm weather this weekend should be biting top

Cool. If you get a chance, tell us how it went and / or post pictures, and, if you don't mind sharing, say what kind of lures you use there.

Really hope to make it. The weather is always a concern, but as long as it's good, I'll go! Interesting what Dale says about topwaters...I haven't had much luck with them since the weather cooled off. Mostly using live shrimp, free lined and if I use a lure I fish it very slowly. Seems to work for me.

Dale - sounds great. Hope you can get away. If not, next time. We'll try to do the meetups on different days to accommodate different people's schedules. Also, anyone should feel free to suggest an outing - location, time, place.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
