Lets Explore Squam Lake & kayak around the islands

Squam Lake has about 30 named islands and numerous smaller, unnamed islets.

Squam Lake is a nesting site for Common Loons and is a good place to see them in breeding plumage during the summer months. Bald Eagles and Great Blue Herons are also known to nest on the lake.

The 1981 film On Golden Pond was filmed on Squam Lake.[2] There is one tour boat service offered by the Squam Lakes Natural Science Center, based in Holderness, that will show visitors where all the filming locations are situated, as well as items of natural significance.

We will meet at the Squam Lake Association Lodge. Depending on the speed of the group, I am thinking a few hours out exploring, we find an island for a lunch break & some swimming, then we leisurely head back.

Gear requirements: lifevest & wear it. Please bring water as well as snack or lunch if you want. You may want to bring some sunscreen, camera & be sure to have a waterproof container for your phone, keys, camera etc. Bring bug spray you may need it.

Squam Lake Formerly, Keeseenunknipee (meaning "goose lake in the highlands"), Casumpa, Kusumy / Kesumpe (1779), Asquam (meaning "water") in 1800s, then in the 1900s to Squam, Squam Lake looks much like it did to its 1700 residents. Squam Lake, the 1981 film site for “On Golden Pond”, is known as one of the most peaceful and pristine in the country and offers visitors plenty of opportunity to enjoy its natural beauty. Big and Little Squam lakes are naturally spring fed and connected by a channel in Holderness. Big Squam is 6,791 acres, 6 miles long, 4 miles wide and 98 feet deep with 61 miles of shoreline. It is the second-largest lake located entirely in New Hampshire.  Little Squam is 408 acres,  2 miles long, 1/2 mile wide and 84 feet deep. The lakes are host to 67 islands.

Suggestions to enhance the fun on Sunday - stop by your local Walmart & pick up a :Super Soaker Water Gun" found in the Pool section of the store. We will be having some serious "water fights" = all in good fun :) Also if you want, bring some food to share in our luncheon :) See you Sunday with Smile, Water Gun & Great Attitude for Fun :)
