This documentary film turned out to be something I was not expecting. And, if you come expecting a Sacha Baron Cohen takedown of the hayseeds, you will be disappointed.
Or, maybe not.
Vikram Ghandi is a recent graduate of Columbia University who grew up in New Jersey. After graduation, his Indian heritage and skeptical nature leads him to wonder about the reasons for the increasing popularity of Yoga and Eastern Spiritualism in America. Then he wonders how easy it would be to create a fake religion from scratch. So that's what he does.
But a funny thing happened on the way to Moksha. Suffice it to say that this is a more complicated and subtle film than its premise might lead one to believe.
"The true story of a false prophet."
