Brian did an excellent job with the presentation and the topic of random trees and the use of the Amazon Web Services was fascinating.
So sorry I had to miss it...sounds like it was a great presentation!

Excellent, thorough, well-prepared.
I added the code and instructions for Wednesday's talk to the dropbox folder with the data.
If you would like to do some work ahead of time, you can find the code and instructions there.
In doing my tests over the weekend, we should be able to get through set up, training the model, and applying the predictions to a test set in an hour.
Here is the link for the dropbox folder:

Do you think a micro instance will be powerful enough run lxde with rstudio?
Hi Phillip, does the new location have wifi internet access, or do I need to bring an ethernet adapter. Also, does the projector accept and HDMI connection.
Thanks for organizing this.

Yes, wi-fi is available and yes, the project accepts HDMI. Thanks!
Everyone, please note the change in location. This is in the basement of 2515 Park Plaza on the HCA downtown campus across from Centennial Park

Hi everybody. I am planning on folks being able to build an AWS instance on their own machine while I am presenting. Here are the prerequisites:
1) A dropbox account 2) An AWS Account (be sure to create your .pem file and know where it is.) 3) Copy the data files to your dropbox account. The data is located here (https://www.dropbox.com/l/TajMhNtg03vcA91puWc2Gd).
If I think of anything else, I will let you know beforehand.
Phillip, it may be worth emailing the prerequisites to the group just in case folks do not follow the discussions.
See you Wednesday.

Haha whoops -- always did have trouble counting to "4" Thursdays!

Drat! I'll be out of town at a conference. This sounds like a great topic!
FYI. I will not be discussing Hadoop. The presentation will be on setting up R on an AWS Cluster Compute Instance and using parrelllel processing to speed up calculations.
This is the day before Thanksgiving... can we move to the week before or after?
