West Nashville Pick-up Doubles and Singles

Over the past month or so, the the weather has been kind of dicey, but if weather permits, we'll meet to play pick-up doubles (or singles or just ground balls). If the temperatures will be below 40 degrees with potential for rain, sleet or snow, I will send out an email to those who RSVP'ed about the weather forecast on the morning of the meetup. However, even in temperatures in the 40's we've been having a lot of fun on the courts. So RSVP and come out and play!

NOTE: This meetup is getting enough RSVPs that the limit was increased to 20, but the Hillwood courts are split into 2 separated groups of 3 courts. So first come, first serve (pun intended) as far as playing in the lower courts. Late arrivals may have to start out at the upper court area, or else rotate in until enough players show for a migration to the upper court area.

Great seeing everyone. Hadn't been out in a while so would liked to have spent some time hanging with the crowd in the doubles court. Are you guys getting to the meetups earlier now? I walked down right at 10 and was too late for a spot. Played Susan in some singles and was hoping to rotate after that but didn't look like there was any interest.

  That is a problem with making the RSVP limit 20 instead of 12. If it is 12, then we just fill up the lower (or upper courts) and no one feels left out. But there have also been questions about why we only open it up to 12 when there are 6 courts. That's why I moved the limit up to 20. So there is kind of a "darned if you do, darned if you don't" sort of problem. Sorry you two felt left out (Matt, it was good to see you, even if we didn't get a chance to play). An argument could be made that we should go to McGavock both on Sunday and Saturday because of 6 courts together. But that is my selfish judgment call - Hillwood is close to my house.

  As the group has evolved over the last 8 months, we also seem to be having more semi-serious matches, so there is less of a inclination to rotate in when in the middle of a set. I don't think that is always the case, but sometimes it is. As far as getting there early, some of us (Robert, Dennis are two) almost always get there 1/2 hour early, just as a good opportunity to practice serves and strokes. So this is a long post, but, sorry, may not answer your questions! Feel free to contact me directly if you have questions or suggestions.

  No need to change anything on my account. Like I was saying, I hadn't been there in a while and didn't know if the etiquette had changed. To tell you the truth, last time I was there, a few weeks ago, I was playing doubles in a close match and when someone else wanted in they stopped our game and suggested we start over while rotating them in and that's what we did. Today just seemed like a big change from that when it became clear that I should have gotten there well before meetup start time if I wanted to hang out with the group, which of course is what meeting up is all about.

I usually get there 15 to 20 min early and people are always there already. Sorry you didn't get to play as much as you wanted. I think there was a lot of no shows today.

He is wonderful! Thanks for asking! He is so well behaved for the most part which is great! I know I am trying to be careful but my friend wants to come play. I was only suppose to have the brace a month but its probably gonna be 6 weeks at this point!
