Halloween Stone Door Trip

Hi Everybody,
Unfortunately I can't go on the Nov.7th trip, but my friend Carla and I can go for the Oct.31st weekend. If anyone would like to join us, please let me know. It is about a 2 hr trip to get there from the Target at Hickory Hollow, so if we get an early start, we'll be able to get a good day of hiking in. I was thinking we would take the Stone Door Trail (.9 miles easy)to the Big Creek Gulf Trail(4 mi difficult) to the Alum Gap campsite. It looks like we can drop our packs there and camp and also go to Greeter Falls as a side trip on either Sat. or Sun and then hike out on Big Creek Rim Trail (3.2 miles easy). I'm getting most of my info from www.backpackcamp.com ,Tennessee,Savage Gulf. There is info at this website also,http://orig.jacksonsu... . I'm not sure what time we would get back on Sun., but it looks like there might be a shorter route out on the Laurel Trail(2.9 miles easy about 2 hrs) if you need to leave early. The weather looks like it might be a little wet on Sat. with a 40% chance of showers and the temps at 60 for the high and 46 for the low, but on Sun. it's says it's going to be sunny with 60 for the high and 44 for the low. We could also see about leaving early Fri. afternoon with the option for folks to meet us Sat. morning. Please email me if you have any questions about the trip.

This was a really nice outing - rain and all. I really enjoyed the company and variety of scenery on the hikes. Thanks Rain Man and Cynthia for posting some great pics!

WOW! This was my first Meet-Up trip, GREAT group, beautiful trail, Mother Nature showing off with leaf color, waterfalls, moss covered rocks, racing rivers and clear creeks. Thank you Cynthia and Carla for pulling together the trip. I'll post pics soon.

Cynthia and Carla may be "rookie" trip organizer/leaders, but they did a GREAT job. It was a fun, manageable outing, yet with enough mileage to be challenging. The waterfalls were amazing, as were the Fall colors. It was a good group with good camaraderie. My wife and I were sorry we couldn't stay a second night.

If anyone would still like to join us on Saturday morning, they can join us at the Stone Door Ranger Station campsite about 9-9:30 and we'll leave from there. I'll have my gold Honda Pilot parked in the parking area so folks will know they are in the right place. Thanks for the post JJ about the hunter's orange.

Cynthia, since you (and I) are going down on Friday, I am wondering who the Saturday morning folks (if any) should meet at Target? And where and what time should we all meet up at Stone Door on Saturday? Just thinking ahead. Although right now, all the RSVPs are headed down on Friday, it appears.

I called the park office about hunting season and wearing blaze orange, this is what I was told. The state of TN has a statewide youth deer hunt going on this weekend, it is advised we wear blaze orange

Thanks, Cynthia & Carla, for organizing this trip! It should be great for "beginners" and experienced hikers alike! And the Stone Door and Savage Gulf SNA itself are such famous hiking icons in Tennessee and not too far away. If my wife says "yes," then we're in for sure! It'll be me and the girls. LOL

I forgot to mention that if we do go Friday, there is a campsite near the Stone Door Ranger station where we would camp. Thanks, Cynthia

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
