  • Seriously last minute suggestion, but that's my life.... would love to get away this weekend.. and probably will. I could leave Friday afternoon or EARLY (dawn patrol) Saturday morning if it means having company. I'd like to hike the Honey Creek area - Depending on when we get there and how many nights, would ideally start at Burnt Mill Bridge trail head...then to JMT to Honey Creek loop (strenuous) and back to finish the Burnt Mill Bridge loop on the way out. (Part of planned trip I regrettably "bailed" on a few weeks ago. ) DISCLOSURE - never done that particular area of BSF before - that's why I want to. Be great to have someone who has to come along.. Right now .. says isolated T-Storms - 30%.... so not a deal breaker yet...but will be "watching"

At the moment with the chance of thunderstorms both days being at 50% as much as I would like to make the trip think I will pass and wait for drier times.

My Hiking the Big South Fork books does mention that if you start the Honey Creek Trail by making. Right from JMT then you should plan to camp within the first mile. if taking the route from the opposite direction to camp before reaching Honey Creek Falls in 1.2 miles. It does not say why to do this and since I have not hiked it before I don't know either but I would imagine it is for reasons of terrain and the like.

Total mileage looks to be just shy of 20 miles. Would need to go about 9.3 on Saturday (gets us about 1/2 way through Honey Creek Loop and the rest Sunday. If anyone can or wants to go Friday afternoon or early evening. can make that work too.. could get there in time to get a couple of miles in maybe.... Like I said, first time on this route, so if anyone can share experience... much appreciated.

Yes I was thinking of hiking the Burnt Mill Bridge Loop to JMT and up to Honey Creek... if getting Friday evening..(ideally with some daylight) that is exactly what I was thinking..

Are you looking to hike Burnt Mill Bridge Loop to the JMT point and follow JMT up to Honey Creek and then do Honey Creek? I have not hiked the area before either and have been wanting to do it for some time now. Thought it would be nice to camp on Burnt Milll Bridge trail as the trail guide describes som e good camping spots, just didn't know if you were thinking of hiking or driving from there up to Honey Creek.

Can not make it but Honey creek is awesome. The best mile for mile hike in the BSFRR. Not very strenuous. Some water running in creeks I would think.
