I enjoyed it. She will be having another one in July. I think that one will be much better. I learned a lot, but think that I should have done a little prep work before I went.

I absolutely hate this.... I got schedule for sone late afternoon meetings. I am going to have to change my rsvp to no.

I was so excited, had my compass sitting on my desk and ready to go. :(

    All,
The park has 18 compasses for use in the class, but if you want to bring your own, you can. If more people than that attend, folks will be paired up to share a compass. The class should run about an hour but could go longer depending on the people attending.
Also, I mentioned the folks unable to attend because of scheduling and Ranger Ponda said that this is the first time she has offered this type of programming so she's putting out feelers and would be glad to see about scheduling a class on the weekend in July.

Sorry. I must withdraw from this adventure. Work is unrelenting.

A ranger should be calling me back today so I will post again as soon as I get some additional information. I am not teaching the class, just acting as point person for the meetup.

What kind of compass is needed?

    June 10, 2013

    • Richard R.

One that has a base plate. (Flat and can draw a line next to it) from there, you can get one where you can adjust the grid lines. And you can get one where you can change the magnetic declanation on it. I use a silva " ranger" but its 40-50 $. Not sure of todays price. For just learning and first class get the one with a baseplate. 5-10 $

Jill, this is also inconvenient for me as well, but, I will do my best to be on time. If you get a waiting list, let me know and I'll back out. It will take me 2.5 hours to get there.

I have a call in to the park to see if we are supposed to bring our own compass. I will let you know as soon as I find out. Also, in regard to the time, unfortunately that's when the Park folks scheduled it. If there other people interested who can't make that time, let me know and I will let the park ranger know and maybe we could get them to plan one that's not during business hours.

Wow, I am out of town but would love to do this another time. I've been asking for help learning navigation for a year. Few people do it anymore.
