Scotts Gulf backpacking trip

  • March 6, 2010 · 8:00 AM

I'm planning about a 10-11 mile loop hike to be split between Sat. and Sun. There are some nice side trails with overlooks and waterfalls and a stunning stretch of white water along the Caney Fork. This is a good beginners weekend as long as the weather isn't too bad. There is not a lot of elevation gained or lost. I went last November and didn't see a soul the whole trip. It's a great secret. The parking areas are near Virgin Falls which is generally over run with hikers almost anytime of year.
Further information will follow when I have the route firmed up. There are two parking areas several miles apart with campsites if anyone wants to spend Friday night. I probably will go up friday night. We will plan on leaving about 8:00 Sat. morning. I will post directions as the date approaches. If you are interested, Sparta chamber of commerce has great maps for $10.

Evelyn did a great job organizing a beautiful hike through the river gorge. There was great company and we couldn't have asked for better weather. I'd love to do this trip again.

It was great to get out and explore the nooks and cracks of this beautiful gorge. The headwaters of the Caney Fork River as it tumbles down off the Cumberland Plateau. Lots of interesting sights and sounds to be found here. I thought the Group worked together flawlessly to help out for the overall good and success of the trip. As we had to help a newbie to backpacking though her first trip. The companionship shared between the members was nice and genuine. You see peoples "real colors" in the back-country. Thank You Evelyn, for organizing such a wonderful trip. Thanks to everyone else in the group doing thier part as well. Cannot wait to get together on the trails again sometime.

I am glad to be off the Waiting List. I'm ready to go Rain or Shine. It is looking like it will be a gorgeous weekend. I'm bringing my super hiking dog Zoe. She loves the trails and is well behaved. I'm up for going up Friday too. Is there going to be a carpool? I'm up for driving but just want to be "green" as I can be.

OMG!! KEWL!!! I want to go on the Friday also. Is the Friday night going to be like car camping where we will have access to our cars, like to pack a small grill, coolers, et? Or should I plan for 2 nights backpacking? Sorry if I have already asked this, just to be sure.
