Our Regular Monthly Meet

Link to Park map to Shelter #4--

Sarah Powell has volunteered to bring her fully-loaded pack to the May meeting and let us do a "break down" and discuss every item:  what might be left at home, what might be substituted with a lighter/smaller item, and what should be added.  If anyone else would like to bring theirs, feel free.  Just pack it exactly as you would for a weekend hike.

The Shelter is unlighted, so bring lanterns, headlamps, ... and bugspray?

Please DO NOT RSVP merely to say "no."  It fills up the organizers' inboxes with needless, irrelevant emails.  Thanks!  We appreciate your help!

Glad to find this group. I am preparing to hike the AT and want to meet others who have hiked it or who are preparing to hike the AT. Always looking for other backpacking buddies.

Riverglynn, I am posting an AT section hike shortly, in NJ/NY for June, if that might interest you. Will also be posting one for August in ME and perhaps another for Oct back in NY.

Great meeting and great presentation by Sarah! Good to see so many eager new faces too! :) The shelter pavilion was great with the nice weather.

Thanks so much Sarah! Great tips! What was the brand of the stove you had?

It can be less bulky than the jet boil. But I like the jet boils neoprene layer around the pot. That boils the water faster and you can hold it. Upside to everything.

True, that water boils in a quick minute. I didn't realize it was the neoprene layer that did that, thought it was the crazy jet engine under the pot. Good to know!

Hey, we don't usually ask for donations, but the park charges a $30.00 rental fee for the shelter and the annual dues for the meetup group are due. The dues are $142.00 for the year. If you would like to help with the costs, it would be greatly appreciated! There will be a donation jar at our meeting Monday night for your contributions. Thank you in advance for anything that you can contribute!

Does anyone know where this meeting will be?

    May 4, 2014

    • Raymond M.

Not yet, Adrienne. We are working on finding a good place and will post something as soon as we know.

I have taken solo backpacking trips to Savage Gulf and Virgin Falls over the last couple of weeks. Into hammock camping and hoping to catch some group hangs or tag along on some cool backpacking trips.
