Hike the Appalachian Trail through Maryland

  • May 18, 2012 · 6:00 PM

The Appalachian Trail runs for 42 miles through Maryland over fairly gentle terrain. Let's take a leisurely 3.5 days to do the entire state, starting at Hapers Ferry National Historic Park at the confluence of the Shenandoah and Potomac Rivers and hike north Saturday, Sunday, Monday, and part of Tuesday. More details to follow, flexible, based on who all signs up.  Should be a relatively easy hike, good for beginners, but fun for experienced backpackers too.

Great hike with great people and some wonderful assistance from trail angels. Maryland isn't exactly flat, but it sure is fun!

I'm going to move this hike back one day, from a Friday start to a Saturday start, which means hiking half a day Saturday, then Sunday, Monday, and part of the day Tuesday. Drive home Tuesday arriving late.

Al, you are correct. The hike starts at 1:00 PM on that Friday, which means Nashville folks will have to leave some time Thursday. If driving through the night (which we did last time), leaving after work on Thursday would be okay. Final decision once we know who all wants to go.
