Hey everybody!

im going to be heading out to my favorite place in Tennessee, the Virgin Falls Pocket Wilderness near Sparta, TN. We will get an early start on Saturday morning, hike in to the falls, camp for the night, then hike out the next day. A truly spectacular area, with lots of side hikes to Sheep Cave falls, and Big Branch falls, as well as checking out the Caney Fork river. I cant wait to get out there!

The hike to Virgin Falls is about four miles, with a half mile stretch that sports a four hundred foot plus elevation change! Slow going heading down into the falls, as well as coming out. Its a great hike that takes between 2 1/2 - 4 hours one way. Nice challenging beginner/ intermediate trip. Plenty of side hikes and loops to add to the mileage if you feel so inclined. Also, I would like to ask for your assistance. Whenever I go there, I bring a kitchen size trash bag, and try to pick up trash, clean out the fire pits, and leave the area better than I found it. Unfortunately, the park tends to get overused, and I have yet to have less than an overflowing trash bag when I hike out! Its definately not mandatory, but if you feel like it I would love to have some extra muscle in taking out some more trash! Heres the Virgin Falls website:

I really had a great time! Even though the weather was rainy on Saturday, it was still beautiful. Sunday morning was really nice too: we saw some white stuff. I enjoyed meeting everybody and hope we can get together again for another trip.

Are we meeting in a specific place in the parking lot @ Kroger's? It's a big lot. I'd recommend between the main entrance and O'Charleys towards the back of the lot. See y'all in the morning!

    Hey everybody!

Got some emails from all of you, and we will meet at 8am instead of 7am for the trip. The weather is going to be cold, so pack appropriately! The lows at night will be getting into the 20s. It will be windy, but no rain in the picture. Another question was when we might be off the trail on Sunday. I would imagine getting an early start, we would be off the trail anywhere between 10am-noon at the latest. Also, we should car pool. I do NOT have a car. Any volunteers?

Either or works for me. I am a little concerned about wet weather though. Are we going in if there is a chance of rain? I dont like cold AND wet, one or the other please ;)
