Overnight Wildlife Viewing Trip at Land Between the Lakes

Eagles from Canada/Great Lakes usually winter at Land Between the Lakes in January and February.

There are also herds of elk and bison year-round.

This will be a beginner trip, with low mileage. 10-15 miles over two days.

We will be hiking from the Hillman Ferry Campground to the Sugar Bay Lake Access area. A map is available here.

The elk and bison are in a 700-acre enclosure, with a driving route inside. So we can see the elk and bison either Saturday morning or Sunday afternoon.

The forecast is sunny, 45/28, on both days, but please be prepared in case the weather turns. Frank offers free/discounted rentals at Blue Ridge Mountain Sports for Meetup members. Contact him for details.)

I live in Clarksville, so I would prefer not to drive to Nashville to pick everyone up before driving right back through Clarksville again. For now, plan to meet at Blue Ridge Mountain Sports on Saturday morning. I would really appreciate it if someone would volunteer as "trip leader" just for the trip to Clarksville when I can meet everyone.

If you have any other questions about the trip or maybe for help with a packing list, please contact me.

Awesome seeing Eagles, flocks of birds flying low over the lake...side trip to see Bison and Elk proved fruitful.
