Evening Vanderbilt Shoot

Zack has offered to lead a shoot at Vanderbilt. Great opportunity to shoot some beautiful architecture and well-maintained landscaping.

Like it says, after two and a half years of living in Nashville I wanted to get onto Vandy and shoot. This week I am going to make calls to make sure we are even allowed to shoot there and see if I can get some behind the scenes access (I'm going to try, no promises).

I plan on rolling out at 5:30 to get a fair split of evening light, dusk and potentially full night sky. I am also going to get a route map together so if you do need to show up late you have an idea where we will be at.

If anyone has any thoughts / suggestions or knows something I don't please feel free to comment or message me.

I agree with Paul, I had every intention of taking non-HDR shots at Vandy, but was less than blown-away with the campus. I figured HDR would make "meh" images a little more interesting. I post, probably more than I should, the two images I really liked were the children's hospital with the car trails and the building shot two before. As it would be a pain to get the interior lighting to come through "smooth" just in post editing / non-HDR.

Rick, thanks for the comments. Don't worry too much about editing. It has become a crutch for taking uninteresting pictures. If I take an interesting picture to begin with I don't have to do much editing. I do like a slightly stylized look sometimes, but I fall back on it too often.

Apologies to anyone who showed up to the default address. Apparently there was a gap in communication between when I set up the page for Zack and how/when I told him he could edit it. *sigh* Words are fickle things.

My apologies to anyone who showed up to the default address. I tried to make it clear with emails, comments, maps and my cell number as to where we were meeting. To my knowledge the address is a default built into meetup.com

I did not see any other photographers from the meetup group. I went to the address that was stated and no one showed up.

Nice pictures, Zack & Paul. Zack, those HDR images are pretty killer. Paul, nice editing on those...they turned out great. I'm not up on my editing just yet, but I'll get there eventually. Still learning the ropes, so for now I have unedited images. Anyway, good job guys, looking forward to seeing what else gets posted.

I am going to attempt to make it, but I will be doing a "photowalk" of Nashville tomorrow and taking pictures of whatever I come across. Walking Vandy might be a stretch for me, but I'll do my best.

I am going to try and park in the "South Garage" and meet at the intersection of 23rd and Children's Way. I will be along the south side of the children's hospital. It is for the most part the SE corner of campus.

I actually found this map of the campus http://www.vanderbilt.edu/map/
You can zoom in and select (show art). I was thinking of working the far right sides of the campus and was suggested we venture to Peabody as well. And before we get down there I am curious about people's opinions about.... The hospitals seem like they would present great architecture, but a bunch of photographers outside the hospitals?

I actually am an employee for Vanderbilt university, as far as I know I don't see a problem with you walking with a group of people snapping pictures. I know building access closes down unless you have an I'd with set permission. There is also art like statues through out the entire area including hospital I'll look to see if I can't find a set route for that. At this time I don't know if I will be able to accompany the shoot, depends on how things play out

It was great getting to meet you the other day Zack!
I'd love to make it, not sure I can but will if I can.
    Thanks :-)

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
