The topic of website security came up in last nights SEO meetup. So
a good topic might be to cover how to tell if your site has
been hacked and what are a few easy steps you can take to prevent
this.

I spoke on this -- securing your Wordpress site -- at WordCamp and would be glad to share a condensed version of my presentation.

Her's what I do for security.

1. I have a great relationship with my web hosting company. I can call them and speak to a human in Ohio. They will work with me to solve problems. It's a good place to start.
2. Use a 10 character username with caps, lowercase, and numbers
3. Use a 10 character password with caps, lowercase, and numbers
4. Wordfence plugin - Paid version $18 bucks is fair.
5. In Wordfence I block all the countries that don't need to see my site.
6. Follow up on the warnings Wordfence sends out.
7. Use Limit Login Attempts
8. I crank the settings up for LLT to block a failed login after 2 attempts for 24 hours..and so on.
