Our July meetup took us up and down hills, and across a half dozen bridges, on the path from Little Neck to Plandome, revisiting a variation on the route we first journeyed in May of last year. Our August walk will be a recap of another of our popular 2007 events, taking is from Bellmore to Wantagh.

Beginning at Bellmore Station, in the Town of Hempstead, we will meet in front of the green and white Bellmore Railroad Shelter (maintained by the Historical Society of the Bellmores) across the street from the headquarters of Bellmore Fire District Hose Company #1.

From there, we will travel east through the Hamlet of Bellmore to Mill Pond County Park, where we will take to the trail along the shore of Mill Pond (identified as James Pond on some maps). Again traveling east, we will traverse the Hamlets of Wantagh and Seaford, passing the Seaford District #6 Schoolhouse (now home to the Seaford Historical Society Museum) along the way, before arriving at Tackapausha Preserve County Park.

Entering the Park at its southern end, we'll follow half a mile of trail north along Seaford Creek, before exiting into the Town of Oyster Bay. Then, after passing through the Hamlet of Massapequa, we'll enter Massapequa Preserve (identified as a state park on some maps), following trails east to the border of the Village of Massapequa Park, before winding up our walk along the bank of the Massapequa Reservoir.

After the walk, we will gather for a meal at the Massapequa Diner Restaurant across from the train station. (Restaurant may be updated once your organizer has had an opportunity to do a little local research. Please stay tuned.)

Parking is also available at Bellmore Station. Trains will be running every 30 minutes from Massapequa to Bellmore. For those coming from Penn Station, the 1:13 train arrives in Bellmore at 2:04.

The rain date for this walk, if canceled due to weather, is yet to be determined.
