The National Writers Union (UAW Local 1981) is the only labor union representing freelance writers in every genre. With 16 chapters nationally, the NWU works to advance economic and working conditions of writers -- lobbying for legislation, initiating lawsuits, educating writers on their rights, networking, organizing picket lines, publicizing viable alternatives to unfair practices by both the traditional and Internet publishers, and by mobilizing members to fight for their collective self-interest.
New York NWU members are now eligible for discounted health care. Learn more at nwuny.org/Health-Care-Benefits.html.
Also, the National Writers Union Service Organization’s writing mentoring program is now open for applicants in New York and neighboring states who wish to be professional writers or simply be excellent at writing. Please contact the NWUSO project director at firstname.lastname@example.org for details.
