August 23 at 9:00am @ McKee Gardens

The NANPA Meetup Group of Eastern Central Florida is conducting a Basic Photography Class on August 22 and 23. The class is for members and non-members alike....

Friday evening, 6:00 PM Aug 22, there will be a 2+ hour class on Getting to Know your Camera and how to set it for professional quality photographs. This class will include:
Photography Basics…How a camera works. Lenses and accessories. What do I do with all these different settings?
The relationship between camera settings, aperture, shutter speed, ISO
Understanding Proper exposure and Depth of Field.
How to insure sharp images for better images
How, when and why to use different settings
Tips, tricks and techniques
I’ve taken the picture. Now What?

The Friday evening class will be followed Saturday morning with a shoot and classroom followup at McKee Botanical Gardens. We will spend 2 hours shooting in the morning, followed by reviewing, adjusting and answering questions and critiquing images in the classroom at McKee.

Cost of the class is $30/student to cover the cost of renting the room at McKee , a projector and handouts.
Payment can be made to me via PayPal using my email address of [masked]
Please pay as soon as you decide to attend as I have to pay Mckee a $300 deposit two weeks prior to the class.

Friday evening location for the first portion of the class is:

Our address is 3585 Bayside Lakes Blvd se Palm Bay Fl 32909.. I can get a map up in a few days for better directions. But you would get off the Malabar exit head west to Emerson St and turn south or left at the light after the Walmart light. Follow Emerson until it turns into Bayside Lakes Blvd right by the Major Golf Course. continue through the stop light and the building would be on your left. Yellow building and drive around to the back of it and you'll find me there.. You will see a car which is wrapped in Florida Aid to Animals.. Can't miss that!!

Mckee Gardens opens at 9:30 AM on Saturday. There is a side entrance to the parking lot used by the maintenance people that is usually open early. I like to get there an hour early to shoot in the front pond . The class will start at 9:30. There is a $7.00/person group entry fee to the gardens.

My primary purpose Saturday morning is to help you get the best possible photographs, so ask questions or ask for help.

I had a great time and it was real nice seeing everyone and I'm sorry we couldn't stay for your follow up Paul.
Mayo is really enjoying herself. I talked her into joining the Meetup group but I really think she joined because of all the nice people in our group.
Can't wait for our next Meetup.
I really appreciate Karen for all the hard work she has put into our group to make it what it is. It hasn't gone unnoticed. Sandi you've been awesome too. -
Sandi, Mayo and I went to the Stick's two weeks ago and agree with you that birding is pretty much done until our northern friends come back down this Fall. We did see a mama pig and her piglets, 3 deer, and a huge allegator crossing the road but nothing but our native birds.

Sounds great.. I'm going to try to hook up my laptop to our big TVs in the lobby and see if you can show us with the TV screens how to and view the pictures,, May be a better picture than the overhead projector. lots of room in lobby. but no tables.. But we can all squeeze in the conference room again if not.. There is an IHOP on Malabar rd before the turn to come to our place although their service and food wasn't good the last fews times we went.. Beef's is always good and if I can get a head count I can get them to move tables together.. The owner is a member of our board so I'm sure he can accomodate our needs..

Sandi, Sept 6 works great for me. I think we should do breakfast instead of a shoot. A shoot would require more driving, people might be tired and sweaty, and they would be thinking more about what they did that morning instead of being of fresh mind for the class. Also, since some people are driving a longer distance, they may not be able to get to an early breakfast and just come to the class later. I think we will get more participation.

I check our calendar at work and Sept 6, 2014 would be good for us for our continuing ed class! Photo shoot or breakfast either way. There is a Beef O'Brady across the street if you all wanted to do breakfast if you want a photo shoot first I could suggest Turkey Creek Wildlife Sanctuary or try Stick Marsh although there is some construction going on there along the road heading out.. Most of the birds had left the rookery area so I'm not sure what we will find there. Any other suggestions??

Thank you for coming to our NANPA meetups. If you take a few minutes to look up NANPA-North American Nature Photographer's Association- you will find what an awesome group Paul, Chuck and I try to represent. It is a direct open door to experience and knowledge.

This class was wonderful! Thank you Paul, Karen, and all who made it possible. Usually I come home from a shoot looking desperately for one picture that I liked. I learned so much and came home very happy with my camera.

my neighbor just got back from traveling abroad for many months and is not a member (yet). I think she would like to come if there is any open space for one more? Even if she can't come Friday, she would at least like to join Saturday at the gardens if possible (but would rather do both days if allowed). I told her I didn't know but would check...

    August 18

  • Paul S.

    Judith, you are welcome too.

    August 18

  • Paul S.

Laura, please join us. There is always room for one or two more. Since I'm teaching the class I guess I'm the final word. Even if you do not have a higher end camera, you will benefit from the class. It is not the camera that makes the photograph, it is the photographer. If you have any questions, please contact me at [masked]

Don't pass, Laura. I, too, was intimidated when i had my little point and shoot and everyone else was carrying a cannon...(not canon.) This is how we learn.
My intended guest is not able to join us. This may make an opening for someone who would like to join us. Look forward to the event.

    August 18

  • Laura

Oh after looking at the pictures of past events, your cameras scare me!!! I'd better pass!!!

    August 18
