Wild Edible Walk at Warwick Park

DO NOT FOLLOW THE MAP Meet-up posted. It will send you to the middle of the woods and you will be lost. Follow the instructions and link under the address and map. It is Alan's job to get us lost, not Meet-up's.

Join Allan on a wild edible walk through field and forest in the beautiful Warwick park in northern Chester county. On this walk I will identify, and you can sample, a variety of edible plants; including cattail, chickweed, catbrier, wild onion, plantain, clover, garlic mustard, spice bush, etc. I will also identify a number a plants that will produce great fruit/nuts in the late summer and Fall including black walnut, shagbark hickory, raspberry/blackberry, wild grape, elderberry, etc). In addition I will identify a number of plants along the way simply because they are too beautiful to pass by without recognition.

The walk will cover about a mile across flat terrain. But there will be bugs, possibly ticks and some mud so I suggest insect repellent and good shoes.

I (Hugh) may or may not be there as it involves getting up early on a Saturday morning. This is against my religion but I will consult with my pagan priestess and see if I can get special dispensation. Alan is a very Knowledgeable Naturalist and knows more botanical stuff than me.

Hi folks. I just noticed this walk was posted in two meetups. I posted the pics in the other meetup: http://www.meetup.com/Wild-Foodies-of-Philly/photos/22895502/ Great walk led by Allan. Thanks very much!

Hi, I look forward to meeting you all. I changed work plans so I could actually get to one of these!

    Fellow nature lovers,

Glad to see interest in this walk. Want to reinforce what Hugh said about the directions. The location and link I wrote below the park address (shown in italics) is correct. Use that link to get directions. However, if you click on the name “Warwick County Park” on the Meetup site you will be taken to a google map that locates the address deep in the woods of the park (not the parking lot where we will meet). And if you click on directions using this map you will be directed to this spot in the woods (not the parking lot where we will meet).

To get the correct location in google maps yourself enter “Warwick County Park Office, 191 County Park Rd, Pottstown, PA”. I don’t know where a GPS system would led you. The key point is to use the main entrance off county park road.

Feel free to call me if you need clarification (home:[masked]). Looking forward to meeting everyone.

I posted this on the Wild Foodies page for this event and thought I'd add it here for anyone not in that group too:
I'm leaving from Narberth at 8:30, and could take up to 3 others. If you can get to the Narberth train station (Regional Rail Paoli/Thorndale line) or one of the Narberth bus stops (Rt 44) by then, or are on the way to the turnpike for me (Ardmore, Haverford, Bryn Mawr) I could pick people up. Message me here if that works for you.
