Who: Homeschooling families with children in elementary or middle school. This group is NOT for babies, toddlers, or preschoolers unless they are accompanying an older sibling who falls within the group age-range. Not a homeschooling family? No problem! You're welcome to join, but don't be surprised if many of our events are held during the school day.
What: Exploration... hiking... festivals... outside playtime... park play ... farms... beaches... redwoods... nature classes... seasonal festivals... etc... there are so many outdoor/nature-related activities for our children to enjoy here in the Bay Area!
When: Primarily weekday afternoons, but we also share weekend activities that are of interest.
Where: Outdoor, nature-oriented locations primarily along the 680 corridor, from Sunol to Danville, but with outings to other locations throughout the Bay Area.
Why: To nurture a lifelong love of nature through fun, hands-on experiences, exploration, play, and education.
Also, as stated by Richard Louv, author of Last Child in the Woods: Saving Our Children from Nature-Deficit Disorder, in the introduction to Jennifer Ward's book, I Love Dirt!, "study after study indicates time outdoors in a natural setting is not simply a nice-to-have activity. It is a vital element for healthy childhood development."
And, well, it's simply fun to get outside and play!!
