This is a group for nature lovers over the age of 18, who want to learn, expand, or share their knowledge of flora and fauna of the lower Vancouver Island region. The outings are walks and hikes to areas that provide the opportunity to see and learn about wild species. Learn about local birds, trees, wildflowers, mushrooms, edible plants, and much more. We encourage members to participate in sharing knowledge as well as learning from others. Our goal is to perceive and to appreciate nature.
The outings may be from one to several hours in duration and may or may not be focused on a specific nature topic (for example, trees, wildflowers, songbirds, fungi). Outings that do not target specific learning objectives will be walks or hikes through natural areas to observe or appreciate whatever we encounter. Some nature hikes may be more physically challenging than others. I hope to schedule some longer hikes in the Sooke Hills and the Juan de Fuca Trail. The description of each outing will include a statement of how physically demanding the hike may be. At minimum, members should be physically fit enough to walk moderate hilly terrain over uneven ground and rough trails.
Membership dues are $20.00 per year from the date that payment is made. Non-members and guests are required to pay $3.00 per outing.
