Let's Jam!

This group is for people who like to play instruments and or sing for fun. All skill levels welcome. I am generally thinking of this as neighborhood group for the Berkeley/Oakland area. I live at Telegraph and Alcatraz and I will host the first 2 jams just to get things started, then if anyone else in the area would like to host that would be great.

The songs will come from 3 sources:

1. Rise Up Singing. This is a classic sing along book with 1200 pop and folk tunes – lyrics and chords. I have 5 copies, if you have a copy bring it along.

2. Digital tablets and laptops. The good thing about this is pretty much any song and chords can be found on the internet. The challenge is that we probably need at least 6 computers/tablets for everyone to be able to see. This method will be somewhat experimental. I have one Ipad and WIFI access.

3. Xerox sheets. This is actually one of the best and easiest ways for everyone to play. If you have a song you want to play be sure to bring at least 10 copies so every one can see.

The Format: We go around the circle and each person either chooses a song or passes. This way the songs will be decided by whoever is there that evening. Music will wrap up around 10pm.

Instruments: Pretty much any instruments are welcome. Just singing with no instrument is great too. Electric instruments are OK as long as you have a small practice amp and don’t mind keeping the volume down to harmonize with the group.

Other things: I don’t have any music stands and am just planning to use the table as you see in the picture. If you have table or standing music stands, that might be helpful, and necessary if you stand to play.

    Hello out there!

If any folks would like to start up a new acoustic jam (I personally don't have the space) I would love to connect with others to play!

Hopefully someone with a space can host a new jam. I understand people's preference for small groups, but with so many members signed up on this meetup and with the one ongoing jam limited to 7, just seems there must be a way for the rest of us to have an opportunity to connect and play some music.

So this jam maxes out at 7? Is that right? Might be nice to have a space that accommodated greater participation. There are currently 75 members of this meetup.

Hi Steven, yes this group is on the small side. I find we can hear each other musically better in a smaller group. There is more demand than supply for music groups though. I might be able to help you facilitate another larger group. I sent an email out about this before you joined - check the discussions link above> More Music!

Sorry, since being on the waitlist I had made other plans so I'd like to give up my place to someone else on the list. Enjoy!

Thank you for this service, I did non meet up in my yard this summer.
So being on the wait list means what?
    Thanks

A "non-meetup"? That's what I'm doing tonight! Who wants to join me (i.e., not join me)?

With a little more notice, I'd would have loved to. Watching the AMC awards and practicing as always. Close your eyes. James Taylor.

Sorry to have to change my RSVP but have a work commitment that won't allow me to get to the meetup on time. Thanks.
