Join us once the weather has become more reasonable for a camping excursion. Thanks to Paul and Cathy for suggesting this one!

A logistics planning session will be separately scheduled to work out the details of this meetup. The intention is to book several camp-sites together so we can camp as a group. This will be a family-friendly event!

All best,

Amanda

We have the tent, the camp stove, and the multipurpose knife.

    October 22, 2012

    • Amanda

Great! Thank you so much! Does the camp stove run on propane? If so, we'll be sure to bring our tank.

  • Perry B.

Wish I could make it out to see you all.. but not ready for camping just yet. Maybe next time. It's not too far from my house where you'll be.

Great writeup. We'll be there about 5:30pm. And instead of a fire extinguisher, we'll be bathing in flame retardant chemicals prior.

      Ha ha, safety first!

I will be sending out a note later today with full logistics... We have a "needs and haves" list from the survey I sent out a few weeks ago. Please stay tuned!!

Are there still anybody who needs to borrow equipment for the campout? Tents, sleeping bags, cook stoves, etc.?

    October 21, 2012

  • Paul E.

We will also need 6-7 lots of wood (let's assume fires are OK), the kind you buy at Loews or Home Depot. Also, a large bag of charcoal. Bring newspapers - I have a great stovepipe lighter.

Some ideas for camp skits/songs can be found at

We will food shop & collect $ at the campsite. I did a rough estimate and the cost will be between $4.25 and $5.00 per person for the two meals - that includes disposable dishes/utensils - and that assumes that 17 persons going is accurate. If there are any spouses or children not included in the number attending it could throw things off.

EVERYONE IS RESPONSIBLE TO BRING (in ADDITION to the cost of the meals): 1/2 pound ground beef per couple (2 persons), as many boneless/skinless chicken breasts per person as you plan on eating, 1 banana per person for desert (skip if you don't want the banana desert). Drop off the meat at our campsite on Saturday morning. KP: I will need one person [in addition to me] for setup and food prep at lunch and two persons for lunch cleanup (maybe 3 if we don't use disposable dishes). I will need two persons for setup and food prep at dinner and two persons for dinner cleanup. I plan on bringing two long tables for eating.

I like the proposed menu Paul. Are you wanting to pool some money to buy the goods? Split out menu items and have people bring parts? Or pay per plate at the door?

Really looking forward to camping! :)

    October 4, 2012

  • Paul E.

Here is the proposed menu. Friday Dinner: On your own (at home or bring it with you)

    Saturday Breakfast: On your own

Saturday Lunch: Chili, Toasted Cheese Sandwiches, Dill Pickles, Potato and Macaroni Salad, Chips-Pretzels, Grapes, Lemonade
[probably 2 pots chili, one with beans and one without]
[make it mild and have tabasco & red peppers on hand]

Saturday Dinner: Foil Pack Chicken&Vegetables, Salad, Applesauce, Rolls&Butter
[can marinate the chicken in Italian dressing or not]

Saturday Desert: Banana Boats and S'mores

    Sunday Breakfast: On your own

There should soon be an itemized list of the ingredients and sizes; it may be most effective to have people sign up to bring ingredients then drop them off Saturday morning at the cooking area.

    Any comments are welcome.

    Paul

thanks for checking into that for everyone! Very helpful!

Yippie! I called Cedar Hill, they are not under a burn ban. However, you must bring all your own firewood, you cannot collect from the grounds.

    September 28, 2012

  • Gary N.

FYI - most counties are under burn bans. Cedar Hill is within Dallas County, which currently has a burn ban, but borders Tarrant which isn't. Individual parks can get exemptions, but don't know if Cedar Hill has one. It can change often, here is the map (fingers crossed) http://tfsfrp.tamu.edu/wildfire.... Can call the park direct to find out (M-F 8-5) [masked]

Cedar Hill State Park is $7 per adult (over 13) per day. So when you arrive, you will need to pay your daily fee for the weekend ($21). The sites are being reserved ahead of time, and we will be using PayPal to collect for the site costs.

    September 27, 2012

  • Gary N.

After reviewing the polls, we will be going to Cedar Hill State Park. Amanda is making reservations for 5 sites (2 couple per site). More information will be sent out soon.

So have we determined a best guess of the locations we might have this at yet. I know we had two or three in mind.

    September 18, 2012

    • Amanda

Hi Nick! I've drafted a survey which I just want to get sanity checked, and folks can rank-order their preference among 4 in/nearby-to-DFW options

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
