American Repertory Theater: You're the Expert

  • Aug 6, 2013 · 7:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

Join us for another round of You're the Expert at the Oberon Theater in Harvard Square. You're the Expert is a live show, podcast, and new public radio program that uses comedy to make academic research more accessible and exciting. Each show features an expert in an important field (but one that you almost never hear about unless you're reading academic journals). Through a series of games and segments, a panel of three hilarious comedians tries to guess what the expert studies all day. The show ends with an in-depth interview where we find out more about the expert's research and what's new and exciting in their field. The show is funny, it's interactive, and you actually end up learning something.

TICKETS

NOTE: Your RSVP on Nerd Fun does not automatically get you into the event - you must purchase a ticket to attend. When ordering tickets, enter the discount code FunNerds to get $5 off the $15 ticket price. Once again, we've reserved the lower mezzanine (to the right of the stage, or to the left as you look at the seating diagram on the ticket page). If those sell out, you can always purchase seats elsewhere.

For folks who want to stay out late, there's also an additional after show at 9:00 for an additional $5, featuring comedians from Comedy Central, Conan, Late Night, and more. When you buy your tickets for the first show, you'll be given a second discount code for the after show.

GETTING THERE

Oberon is located in Harvard Square on Arrow Street, just off the one way section of Mass Ave a few blocks east of the Red Line Station. Speaking of the Red Line, it's your best bet for transportation. If drive you must, parking is available at several lots in Harvard Square, and will likely cost more than the show.

Hope to see you there :)

I agree with Doreen: fascinating topic, amusing, but more comedians didn't help. The games are fun but I personally prefer what first hooked me: comedians painting (fake) portraits of the experts and their work through monologues as various characters. The guessing actually built up...suspense. Regardless, it's a great premise and event. Glad it's getting more exposure!

It was amusing, surprisingly more because of the scientist than the comedians. Adding a fourth comedian didn't add to the show. I am a nerd and want to learn about science and have a little comedy to break things up. I felt that this show tipped the scale too far into the comedy with a little science side. Some of the lines were a riot and learning about how they tell the age of stars was interesting.

Got my tickets, any idea who is on the after show?

It will be the three comedians who are on the panel of the first show doing their usual stand-up routines.

There are 34 RSVPs here. On the OBERON website only 17 tickets have been purchased in the designated section; and that includes people not from this meetup who may have chosen that section. Who is really going?
