Announcing a new Meetup for Nerd Fun - Boston!

What: Lindy Hop Practice with "Five Guys Named Mike" @ First Church in Cambridge

When: April 6,[masked]:30 PM

Where: Click the link below to find out!

Meetup Description: Through careful investigation, I have discovered this odd archaic system of movement done to outdated and obsolete styles of music. I have heard about this odd internal force called "rhythm"... which I appear to lack, but I have told can be developed. I was going to drop in on "Five Guys Named Mike" and see how it is doing the Lindy. I did take swing dancing classes ... five years ago... and wanted to check them out. Never heard of them before. Care to go? Let me follow up that they are still holding this class on this date.

... how are the classes? How crowded is the dance? Not sure. Never been to this location before. Let's scout it out together. If it's good, let's attend the progressively harder lessons on the following Mondays. Maybe we can grill them on the history of the Lindy Hop and the difference between West Coast and East Coast Swing. Get all Nerdy on 'em.

"About the lesson: drop in style lesson will be progressive starting with first Monday of each month.

"First Monday is Newcomer Night and covers 8 count basics. No experience necessary and no partner required.
"Second and third Monday's will build on basics. All levels welcome. Work on fundamentals and technique in the class.
"Fourth (and sometimes fifth) Monday's will be Mike's favorite new move...something challenging to work on.
"Lesson instructor: Mike Smith (Mike #2) TA: Mike Hibarger (Mike #3).

"Organizers: Michael Jonas & Michael Smith"

Where to meet:

T.J. Maher is thinking of grabbing something to eat at The Garage at 6:30 pm on JFK Street, on the lower level food court. T.J. is 5 foot 7, with short brown hair, blue eyes, and will have a large red MEETUP sign on the table he is sitting at. There is a Flat Patties -- a greasy hamburger place -- a Subway sub shop, and a Mexican take-out place all nearby, with a pizza place on the upper floor. We can walk over at 7:10 pm.

"First Church in Cambridge is located at the corner of Garden and Mason Streets, a five minute walk from Harvard Square. Look for the big stone church with the rooster on top, across from the Cambridge Common.

"Red Line--Harvard stop, or any bus going to Harvard.
Walk down Garden Street away from Harvard Square towards the Cambridge Common. The Church is directly opposite the far end of the Common, on the left, next to the Sheraton Commander Hotel".

Official website:

History: ... It seems like this is just an informal bunch of aquaintances who used to take lessons together, then set up fun Wednesday Night Practice Sessions. One of the guys DJs, playing from his collection of CDs. Should be interesting.
