Announcing a new Meetup for Nerd Fun - Boston!
What: Lindy Hop Practice with "Five Guys Named Mike" @ First Church in Cambridge
When: April 20,[masked]:30 PM
Where: Click the link below to find out!
Meetup Description: Through careful investigation, I have discovered this odd archaic system of movement done to outdated and obsolete styles of music. I have heard about this odd internal force called "rhythm"... which I appear to lack, but I have been told can be developed. I was going to drop in on "Five Guys Named Mike" and see how it is doing the Lindy. I did take swing dancing classes ... five years ago... and wanted to check them out. Never heard of them before. Care to go? Let me follow up that they are still holding this class on this date.
The more involved Lindy Hop class is run twice per month: 4/13/2009 and 4/20/2009 this month. I'm going to go to see Zombies on the thirteenth. Who wants to come with me on the 20th? Last time we took the hourlong lesson, but we only hung around for another hour during the dance to grab dinner. It was quite fun! Oh, by the way? They can't have leather-soled shoes on the floor. Rubber soled is fine though. [ Shoe FAQ: http://jera.pair.com/~mjonas/mikes/shoe_faq.html

==> "Second and third Monday's will build on basics. All levels welcome. Work on fundamentals and technique in the class.
"Fourth (and sometimes fifth) Monday's will be Mike's favorite new move...something challenging to work on.

Where to meet:
T.J. Maher is thinking of grabbing something to eat at The Garage at 6:30 pm on JFK Street, on the lower level food court. T.J. is 5 foot 7, with short brown hair, blue eyes, and will have a large red MEETUP sign on the table he is sitting at. There is a Flat Patties -- a greasy hamburger place -- a Subway sub shop, and a Mexican take-out place all nearby, with a pizza place on the upper floor. We can walk over at 7:10 pm.
"First Church in Cambridge is located at the corner of Garden and Mason Streets, a five minute walk from Harvard Square. Look for the big stone church with the rooster on top, across from the Cambridge Common.
"Red Line--Harvard stop, or any bus going to Harvard.
Walk down Garden Street away from Harvard Square towards the Cambridge Common. The Church is directly opposite the far end of the Common, on the left, next to the Sheraton Commander Hotel".

... It seems like this is just an informal bunch of aquaintances who used to take lessons together, then set up fun Wednesday Night Practice Sessions. One of the guys DJs, playing from his collection of CDs. Should be interesting.
