Geek Craft: Bleach Stencil T-Shirts

Have you seen the pictures floating around the internet, craft sites, pinterest, etc that have the really cool shirts, sweats, bags that were made with stencils and bleach?  Well for Geek Craft this week, we are going to attempt to make these ourselves.

Materials to Bring:

Something to bleach (ie: shirt, bag, cloth)

Your stencil (or make it up on the day) - I am going to try using that kitchen cupboard tack paper stuff, but other ideas might be cardboard, wax paper, parchment paper, duck tape.

Your imangination

(Maybe dress in clothes you don't mind if they get ruined due to us working with bleach)

Materials Provided:

Bleach (in a spray bottle)

Long Term forecast shows that it should be nice and sunny this date, so we will be working outside on the patio.

Please note that this is a first attempt at this project, members of Nerd HQ have not done this before, so we will all be attempting it, making mistakes and having fun together.  Even if you don't want to participate in the project, feel free to come out and work on other project with your fellow crafty geeks.

Nerd HQ's weekly Dinner & Death event is also this night.  If you are planning on staying for at least the dinner portion of this event, please RSVP separately in that event (CLICK HERE).  Doing so greatly helps out organizers in the planning of dinner.  Dinner is set up family style and we only start to watch the show once dinner is finished.

I loaned out my cutting board and box cutter today and forgot to grab them before I left. Please let me know if you have them, and I'll let you know the next time I'll be around to pick them up.
    Thanks!

Hi Cory, I thought they might be yours, I saved them for you :)

Sorry, not be able to make it now... :( Looking forward to seeing results and trying it later.

The bleach leaked into my template. I should have used contact paper. Next time . . .

This was a lot of fun! (nothing I own is now safe from bleaching...)

So, Sam and I didn't think of it, but you'll probably want to bring an exacto knife....

Does anyone have a TARDIS stencil, or working on one?

      Tape or glue stick?

      June 20, 2013

    • Sandra W.

We can try either, both. I like the glue stick idea...

So, this being Vancouver, there is now a small chance of rain on Sunday. If it does rain, we can do all the prep-work on the shirts inside (ie. making of stencil, sticking it to shirt), but the actual spraying of bleach will have to be done outside (there is a large umbrella that we can use if we have to)

We can handle a little rain!! :)

What should the stencil be made out of?

    1 · June 17, 2013

    • Samantha

Oh, forgot that part, thanks Cory. I was going to use that kitchen cupboard tack paper stuff, that way when I cut out my design, I can stick it to the shirt and hopefully not get any bleed through.
