Geek Craft: Button Art

UPDATE: Dinner & Death has now been scheduled for this Sunday, if you plan on staying for at least the dinner portion of this event, please RSVP. (CLICK HERE TO RSVP)

Buttons, buttons, buttons!

Do you have an old stash of buttons? I've seen some beautiful button art on Pinterest and thought we could give it a try. Of course, these could be geeky works of art too, how about a button TARDIS, or DEATH STAR, or a NINJA TURTLE perhaps? The possibilities are endless!

Or, if you find a different button craft (there are so many) you want to work on, that's great too!

As always, you don't have to work on the group craft. Feel free to come out and work on your own craft in progress.

Materials needed:

Buttons! (if you don't have a stash, you can get bags of buttons from the dollar store, colour coordinated or a mix of colours)

Cardboard, canvas or something for your backdrop to put the buttons on

Glue: any type of glue you'd use for plastic, hot glue, tacky glue, I even saw someone who used double sided tape. Whatever you think will work!

Pictures or sketch of what you'd like to create (I'll try to include lots of samples and links here)

Monograms, Words or Wooden Letters:

Trees! Lots of trees:

Love this idea, have wanted to learn more about button art for a while now!!! The only thing is...I have a riding lesson in Delta until about 2:30, and with showering and such afterwards, I may not be there until like 4...Would that be ok?

Never mind, no riding lesson today, so I will be there around 3 :)

One of the button's came off on my coat, since this is a button themed event would it be possible if someone would help me sow the button back on? :)

Make sure to bring a needle and thread as this event does not involve sewing per se.

If your coat is bulky, also bring a couple of matches so you can create a shank of thread for the button.

Fun as this sounds, I do have a looming deadline for a project. So if I do come in after being on my feet for 4 hrs at the Sun Run (south end of Burrard Bridge - come by and guest conduct the BC Regt Band!), I'll be working on that.

Do you mind if I bring my 5 year old to help me do this. It looks like so much fun.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
